Well...
it's a mixed bag
- a lot of reused songs from last year
- some of the songs integrated well into the story, but some made little to no sense and felt out of place
+ the story, however short, was nice and tickled that old canon of "Miku being some diva from the future where songs are lost"
+ the new songs fit the story well
+ the choreography of the songs made good use of VR(felt like reaching out to Miku at some points)
+ this year I had no technical issues, VR mode worked, and didn't get connection errors during the final song either
The reuse of so many songs makes me speculate that they wanted to do this story thing last year, but for whatever reason couldn't, and settled for the quirky space ride.

there really wasn't any though? the conversation started with that facebook post that complained about how the fanbase glorifies the old producers a lot compared to the new ones. something i disagree with because I'm sure what really happened is the opposite. people keeps glorifying the new producers and forget about the old ones. 40mP is not the one that got 500k views for his new songs in just 4 days, it's syudou. the new song that got a fuck ton of covers is not 164's or じん, it's kanaria. the most popular producers in the recent times are the new ones, the numbers proves it. it is also worth to note that the style between each era differs massively. if someone like the old style better it's makes sense for them to just stick with it. there are some new producers that still keep that late 00s/early '10s style alive but they sure aren't mainstream.

What are you talking about, Jin still gets attention. 164 doesn't put out that many songs anymore but one of his recent songs popped off on Youtube. 40mP doesn't get a lot of views because until very recently he's had some insane samesound and people got bored. The reality of the matter is a new generation of listeners that are like middle school aged are going to Youtube first and the new producers are what they're seeing. If they know an old song they either heard it by chance as a kid or it got added to Project Sekai. Old producers don't have a presence on Youtube because most of them didn't take it too seriously until the past few years, look at cosMo who has a large following on Youtube or even PinocchioP on the more extreme side. Either way, it was like this back in 2013-14 too, normies and minors usually only listen to whatever is right in front of them which is why the bubble burst in the first place. Except now the community is way healthier due to shit like VocaColle constantly giving the spotlight to small timers and the YT algorithm occasionally giving the spotlight to people seemingly at random. While I love the old sound and prefer it, I don't think the current direction of things is bad at all. People aren't cannibalizing each other as much as the last time the scene was this popular. There's also a renewed interest in old songs now that zoomers have gotten really into VOCALOID. There's never been a better time for the scene.

EXIT TUNES sure put out a lot of GUMI compilations. for selections per artist, i chose to pick the albums with the most amount of favorite tracks in my library, so i did the same when choosing compilations. it was a close tie between GUMish (4 favorites) and GUMing (3 favorites.)

it's present on the first chart. this chart is an addendum to the first essential chart so i tried not to add duplicates between the two. i imagined they would typically be posted together. i think any album you've pictured to be missing from that one would be found on the first one.

i think my only guilty bias is how much i love camellia/electro-drug and the presence of Artemis by MijipinP since it's really old and nobody talks about it. Meiko deserves at least some recognition for this one as in my opinion it's the hottest rock Meiko record ever made.

from the other response i think you get it already but i'll spoonfeed. ryo(supercell) is one of the top most-listened vocaloid producers of all time, (World is Mine|Melt) helped by being featured in literally every single major vocaloid concert or event since then. for most people the image of miku _is_ Ryo's music, and given that it's been 10+ years since the self-titled supercell LP came out his music has definitely been appreciated by many people in their formative years and beyond and given great influence and attention to vocaloid worldwide. for that i agree that he definitely deserves praise, but on the other side of the argument there's quite a lot of producers making underrated work that should be spoken about much more who have came out since then. it's your job to bring them up as anon. also remember that ryo basically used vocaloid as a springboard to launch his music career and doesn't make vocaloid anymore. you can tell us he's great and all but it doesn't bring much to the table.

it's fine to do this i can say if i'm being nice, but i do find it strange. i noticed younger people like hearing singles. i'm at the very edge of gen X and i still firmly believe albums are albums. you should really try listening to full albums in order. if you listen to ELO's "Time", that's an 'album' album, you absolutely have to sit and listen to the whole thing in order. you don't listen to just 'Twilight' and stop. it starts with a smooth rock-epic style telling you a story of the future in space with robots and slowly sails winding-down to the end of the piece rewarding you with 'Hold on Tight' as the finale. you can sit and listen while dreaming of a better life in the future during the whole experience, and by the end you're reminded solemnly to never let go of your dreams. that's a great album experience i very much enjoy and still hold fond memories of my first listen. it was very moving and i still remember it to this day. this can happen in vocaloid as well but it certainly takes an ear to notice, so better get the experience now than to forgo the opportunity forever.

i'll task you to listen to TRIPPERS by camellia in one sitting. do this while undistracted. lay on your bed with your headphones or sit back in your chair or something. it may change your stance on this. i personally found it be an extremely psychadelic and influential experience. weird chords, impossible vocal keys; the entire theme is technology and electricity (trippers = tripping a circuit breaker) basically you can like top of the pops singles, or you can like albums, which i prefer. specific instances will impress you forever and trust me you don't wanna miss out on that.

I feel like this year alone the amount of producers putting up their old music on Spotify went up exponentially for both new and old producers. It's an exciting time, especially with how streaming is picking up in Japan. I'm not any of those anons but this phenomenon is actually quite interesting. As someone who does both, I do notice that more often than not, in an album, there's an extended version of a song separated by tracks and interludes, not to mention stories or themes. And yet I also like the simplicity and ease of use from listening those songs by shuffling your own playlist, or maybe even through your Spotify Mixes/YouTube Music recommendations.
As a compromise, I merge those tracks that I found to be better if it's in sequential order into one file for my local/offline shuffle playlist and make another dedicated playlist for thematic albums.

So yeah, my tips would be listen to your albums at least once and from there decide whether it's fine to listen to those tracks separately or not.

I usually like to listen to an album as an album at least once for the experience unless I'm not fond of the producer and only like a few stray songs on the album. Some producers kind of ruin songs when they remaster them for albums though, this is of course 100% my own opinion but a lot of PinocchioP's early 10s albums he just messed with the songs way too much, so I'd usually take the versions from compilation albums and put them in a playlist instead. Honestly another thing is a lot of people just do not bother with proper album sequencing so the album listening experience becomes jarring. Overall though sometimes I'm just not interested in the story an album tells or the album isn't sequenced right. When listening to an album there are always a few duds I'd skip anyway after the initial listenings, so why not get to the good stuff right away, since I've gone through the trouble of curating my listening experience.

mikudb has no album backups. everything is left in an at-risk position. all links appear to be provided by fans uploading from their own accounts, so when one account gets whacked a bunch of links go down. then they let users report dead links on their discord, and then said fans can resubmit new links themselves where by that point the two mods they have there are responsible for replacing the dead links on the website, so they stay dead until said mods get around to it, if they ever do.

thank you for the consideration! it seems like Unforgotten is a concert for people that couldn't attend Open Air Cinema, open air cinema have its own concert in between the day/night screening anyway. I'd assume that some new songs was played on the concert so yeah, might worth the $30 for whoo's last concert. from his latest post it seems like he'll stop making music after the final album got released.

I knew Kendo-san story before, but I wouldn't call him a doll lover. After all he got that big doll quite late and until then he acted more like typical waifuist and married just a plushie. That really depends on your personality. I can't speak for Kendo, but I have been with Miku for over 8 years, 100% serious no holding back, and I never had any problems like that.
