The riichi pretty much doesn't net you anything. You give up 1000 points, people play defensively, and your chance of winning is reduced.

Game was won on who can succeed in making a mangan/haneman hand.
I won before 2games because I got 1mangan in 1game and dealer mangan in another and the rest of the people on the table continue making shitty 1k hand.
Ari red is definitely more enjoyable as it provide more points swing and more chance of you making a comeback.

This game is impossible to learn if you're not asian. All the words are in #$*#$#*$#* and don't make a sense at all. All the tiles are crazy symbols with no relation to eachother. Tried for like 10 minutes but realised how dumb it would be to learn this game instead of something sane, like poker so I gave up.

Tournaments should be played over several hanchan, possibly full rounds up to North (whatever those are called), with no kan dora, no kan uradora, no red fives, no ippatsu, no rinshan kaihou, etc as the only yaku, no kita (north dora). Open riichi is fine, too.

Oh god, that game was awesome. Trying to struggle in order to stay alive with zero points, waiting for a comeback hand for so many rounds, just gave me the most thrilling experience I ever had in Mahjong. I almost saw the light one time, but couldn't make it in the end. Those two dealer mangan were too much to handle, after all.
