After getting to level 3, I found myself 1CCing PoFV, and getting to level 5 without using a continue for the rest of the games. StB may be rape, but it's good rape.

It's my first time playing ANY touhou game. I decided to try shoot the bullet first. The first level went somewhat decent, a bit getting used to, but other than that, fine. Level 3&4 took a little while, but were fun as well. Level 2 (yes, the second freaking level of the game) made me rage. It took me OVER FUCKING 9000 TRIES (not really, like 40 I think) to beat the SECOND FREAKING LEVEL IN THE GAME. Dear god I suck at this. Off to do the 5th & 6th.

This was one of the last I played. Blew through it to level 9-1, having a few problems once in a while with stuff like China and Sakuya's knife circle of unavoidable death.
9-1 can't be beaten. Everyone who says they have is a liar.

Yes 'n' no. Shoot the Bullet should prepare you well for working through spell practice, but it'll take more than that to do the normal games.

I'd say, keep going until you really, really need a break. Then try PCB.

9-1 is defiantely do able. If you are giving up before a few thousand tries you're doing it wrong from stage 9 and on through the end of the extras.

Why StB does not translate well into other touhou games
1) You have to release the shoot button
2) You have to move within 1 cm of the boss
3) You move so damn slow. Like Master Spark slow.

Unfocused movement is lightning fast, focused movement is nearly normal, and focused-charging movement is extremely slow.

If you don't focus/shoot you charge your camera damn slow. And since I always hold down the shoot button (since you do that in every other game), the moment I unfocus I start taking the picture. Lunatic on other games = easier than stage 3 StB.

It's not nearly that bad. I can barely beat most Touhou games on easy and slow mode with max life settings without using continues, yet with StB the only reason I haven't beaten 3-3 yet is because there's so many bullets onscreen that it takes a couple of seconds to even find the boss.

Basically, you're doing it wrong. Simply snapping a picture then holding focus/shoot till you reach 100% and then snapping another in stage 3 and up is pretty much suicidal because you just move too slow to get through the barrage. I hold focus to dodge the bullets and tap the shoot button for a second or so in those brief instances when I'm safe enough to sit relatively still. The camera still fills up pretty quickly even if you don't charge at all - it seems slow on the lower levels when you're safe for seconds at a time, but when you're so busy dodging that you don't have time to charge, it'll seem like it fills up faster than you expect.

It's about time she gets a fucking digital camera.

I haven't beaten EoSD with Reimu B without continuing, it's my first Touhou and I don't want to play any other before at least finishing this one with every character...should I try playing shoot the bullet?

I've managed to get to level 8 (mostly from clearing lower levels though, I can't beat level 7 either)

For some reason I can't manage 2-5 though, the one where you have to circle around Cirno keeps fucking me over when she flies into me.
