I wouldn't be so sure about that considering how we already have oddities like a new club existing in Oniokoshi from the start (but Kihiro and Keitaro are the only members) but Keitaro still thinking about creating it in Hoshiwatashi which seems completely unrelated to the usual variations between fragments.

Obviously some lines are shared in Hoshi and Oni, but some of the stuff that seems different about them seem like it might be the result of different people expanding on R07's plot rather than actual plot deviations.

Reading Rika's story...

Battler is specifically startled by Rika's "Faito!" (which Bern says to him in ep2), although like you say there, he doesn't actually seem to have any meta memories.

Battler talks about how Rika becoming a chiester might be due to interference from an observer (although he obviously has no idea it's somehow himself and doesn't seem to know anything about the Chiester either).

Then we get Erika popping up, actually following directly from the 1st event and her character story, with her challanging Nao again. Although no one seems to remember those events at all (in Nao's character story she had talked about them like they were just a dream and forgotten afterwards until she met Beatrice again during daydreams).

The funniest part was people thinking for a moment that Battler keeps losing on purpose to protect the others, until they realize that no, Battler's just very unfortunate.
Though I feel that if we were really going to get Bern and Lambda, Bernkastel would've already had sprites for Erika's character event. It would be a bit silly to not use them if they're just going to show up later. Those two are probably really hard to write in the current Mei environment. Maybe they'd be easier once Mei's main plot finally reaches its climax and unveils the true culprits, but I can't really see those two witches interact with the main cast right now. They're just way too intimately involved with them, and Ryukishi seems to be really hesitant about fully explaining the connection between them.

Ange's story has her meeting Kazuho and the other. They talk and soon end up learning neither one is really from that "world".

They take Ange to the hospital after finding her, but Battler and Jessica pass by there, and Ange hides her identity. Based on what she says later, the "can't reveal your identity to Battler" rule is active here.

Talking more with the Mei crew, Ange talks about the Rokkenjinma disaster and how she's the only survivor. Ange considers just the chance of meeting Battler a miracle, while the Mei crew wonder if she can act to change fate, shouldn't it be done? Ange mutters how that miraculous fragments was something even the witch of miracles couldn't find.

Ange wonders what Kazuho hopes to accomplish from her own miraculous experience. Finding out the truth? Changing the past? But what if those two are mutually exclusive?

Anyway, Ange introduces herself to Battler as Gretel and finally start a friendly conversation, while Kazuho is left wondering what exactly is her own goal. Maybe she just wants to find her brother and interact with him like that?

In Akasaka's story...

Rika questions Akasaka's presence in Hinamizawa at that time. It doesn't match his timing in other worlds, where he's always busy with his job and would never have time to appear for hotsprings.

Akasaka and Rika talk again later. Akasaka shows her a Role Card, which was found in the location of the dam murder. A similar card, which is blackening, also was found in Tokyo, which is how he became involved with the investigations regarding the curse of Oyashiro-sama.

Rika and Akasaka then talk about Miyuki. Akasaka already had suspicions that the Miyuki Akasaka he met in Hinamziawa was actually his own daughter and when the moment is right they will talk.

At the end, they leave to fight some Tsukuyami and Akasaka gets the Sorcerer Battler look when using the Role Card he had gotten. Rika looks at how excited Miyuki is about Akasaka helping out and thinks about how they bond even while both sides keep a lie going.

Most collabs end with the fragment being restored and everything crossover-related erased/forgotten. Even in this one freaking Erika is the only character that clearly remembers part 1 since she's jumping between fragments rather than staying behind to get her memories fixed/retconned.

As for the monsters, Rika has been getting killed by them in several worlds now. The Oyashiro-sama Rika story was the introduction of Mei's plot from Rika's point of view. Basically, she avoided the 83 tragedy, but a few months later all of Hinamizawa was massacred by monsters appearing out of nowhere. So back to looping. Then this kept repeating, with no clear timing unlike her original prison. Even pulling the Onigari no Ryuou and going full witch changed nothing. So, brute force is completely written out and they need to find the secret behind whatever is going on, like the true nature of the monsters and distortions of history in general.

In the main plot, there's a lot of talk about the monsters being like lies/distortions in the world, proof that the world they see isn't really the "truth", they even avoiding mentioning their names because it's like affirming their existence. This Umineko crossover event kind of ignored all that (although lots of early events also did it, which is part of what makes this Umineko part 2 event story feel like something that was written very early on in Mei). Basically, yeah, a lot of the plot is trying to find what is behind it all and it's generally assume there will be some kind of real person behind it.

As far as Takano goes, in part 1 of the main plot, she was just a shadow of herself in main Higurashi. She gets to do the Onigafuchi/Oyashiro infodump, goes on with her usual plans, but then her and the Mountain Dogs just get completely btfo by the Mei plot and she just ends with a bullet on her head in the Watanagashi night.

2nd chapter though, in a Saikoroshi-like world (not quite the same, but similar in rough lines), she was a genuinely helpful researcher tied to a bunch of secrets regarding Hinamizawa Syndrome (research continued in secret even after Hifumi supposedly succeeded in curing it) and plays the role of a supporting character without any evil plans going on. Irie turns out to not have his backstory development and was the actual mad scientist here.

In the 93 timeline she leads a foundation fighting against a "sleeping disease" pandemic that's spreading around the world, but then they suffer a terrorist attack, and when the cure was finally ready, everyone started seemingly dying everywhere.

Why did this thread turn out this way?

The witches just operate on a wholly different level from normal characters. It's manageable to deal with characters like Erika and Beatrice, who are fairly close to humans, but Bern and Lambda are just way too alien and powerful to interact with the Mei characters in a normal way.
The only real way I could imagine them appearing is as villains of some sort, where they just appear to fuck around with the cast, then leave, much like the Witches event, but that one largely relied on the regular Mei versions of Rika and Satoko to make its story work.

On a different note, I figure that the whole "It's okay to sustain a lie if the truth is too complicated" is probably going to feature in Kazuho's story, given how much her narrative ties into her "brother" Rei, even though she probably isn't Kazuho at all. I think it's probably going to be a trainwreck either way, though. Kazuho is just a mess in general.

It's sad that some people in this thread use shitposting as the only means of social interactions. That's why they can't stop. Sad.

I cannot think of any concept more awkward for a crossover event than one that relies entirely on them just interacting with their own side. They could only really work as background characters in that way, and Bern pretty much already does that with regards to Erika.
Eua had the advantage of already being a Higurashi character (and Umi Bern is different enough from Higu's Frederica that she doesn't work the same), but crossover events are basically fanservice by their very nature. People want to see the interesting interactions, so Lambda and/or Bern just playing around with Kazuho and the others doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment. What's the point of bringing out big characters like the two witches if you could replace them with random new characters and achieve the same result. We already had stuff like the bunny event and the anniversary events where Kazuho was getting screwed around with by Tsukuyami or "Hanyuu", which worked out just fine.

"This is possibly the greatest anime ever made. I'm a long time fan of Higurashi since 2006 so my expectations for this story are extremely high. Yet somehow this show not only delivered but surpassed all my realistic expectations and just blew me away. Never before has an anime story had such great buildup and payoff in the end.

I was excited getting into Gou with it going down a neat new story direction and expanding upon the Higurashi universe further. Sotsu is a continuation of the saga that Gou set up and revisits a lot of the murders from the previous season from a fresh new perspective. Even though we have seen these events in some form from the previous season, Sotsu puts fresh new twists and shocking reveals so there is never once a dull moment. And it all feels so gloriously rewarding with the payoff we get in the climax. As a fan over the whole scope of Ryukishi07's works and not just in isolation to Higurashi, this work is near masterful..

My only complaint about this anime is that the art an animation are just average and don't do anything that amazing. Still, when the only complaint about the art and animation is that it is standard, I'm really trying to reach when coming up with aspects this anime actually did wrong.

The sound and characters are all up to WTC's traditionally high standards for such. The OP and ED were amazing performances and always got me hyped for the show. The music used during the final conflict was chilling and gave me goosebumps.

Overall this anime is a rare masterpiece. It has far exceeded all my expectations. 10/10 will watch again."

Most of the events are just "the gang does a thing". The setting and characterization are well established for them, so it's easy to write the characters in those situations. There's only really a handful of events that deviate from the norm, like the sci-fi one, but that one's so far off the rails that there aren't really many expectations.
But when it comes to the college gang, we just know very little about them, beyond Mion having formed another games club. We don't even know what each of them is supposed to be studying.
