Why doesn't /jp/ make a Touhou game? You guys obviously love it and know enough about it to make a decent script. It isn't too hard to do, ZUN does it alone, imagine how good it'll be if multiple people join up to make one. If enough people work together, you guys could make your own Touhou bullet hell with x amount of playable characters and 7-8 stages in under 6 months.

Shit didn't go well, we fought for like 2 weeks on what to include in the game (we ended up having Reimu, Marisa, Reisen, and Suika as playable characters with 6 stages and a variety of bosses). EASY PROSPECT....

but I suck at implementing levels in STGs.

ZUN benefits from having made at least 1 shmup (and I think he even had help on that one; 2nd TP game for PC-98?). It's the same core engine, with tweaks and whatnot. You make one game, and the rest become easy-modo.

If no one minds FLASH, I ~~could~~ make a flash-powered STG... AS3 has greatly increased the amount of bullets that can be moved onscreen before lag becomes an issue.

If I can figure out how to implement XML, we could use BulletML for bullet pattern layouts.

If you're willing to put up with the initial trollan, /v/ can actually be somewhat of a help; there's always a few creative people/ people who are willing to establish 4CHAN GAMING STUDIOS.

but this is all idealistic. collaborative projects over the internet with people you don't know well = not a good idea. not everyone would have the ability to commit to the project and stuff.

best hope is for people to randomly contribute stuff into a pile, then have some competent person make something with it.

If we were to make a shmup it'd be a terrible waste. ZUN's got that covered, he's been making shmups for over a decade, and none of us will make a better Touhou shmup.

As silly as it sounds, I'd like to see an action/shmup MMO with roleplaying elements.
None of the official characters would be featured, and instead the story would take place in the early, chaotic days of Gensokyo. Characters can freely build and customize and build their Touhous using our famous formula, and character progression would involve designing personal spell-cards from modular elements somehow earned over time.

The game engine itself is not hard to make or use, one guy can seriously make a touhou game alone. Given the resources such as the game engine, a good script, decent amount of good pictures/sprites and some good music for the stages, anyone can probably put a stage, or even the whole game together in about a full day.

The game itself still haven't been made however, since /jp/ doesn't seem to have someone that have that much dedication to take charge and actually search around to gather the parts. I'm sure someone can get some drawfags here or /a/ to do the sprites and drawings, a decent script in a thread here, /mu/ to get compose some tracks, and /g/ to get a working game engine. Result? PROFIT!!!

If someone want to, we can pair up and we'll do all the pictures/sprites (maybe one of us do just pic, while the other do all the sprites). As for game engine, I don't see why we can't rip off from another game/previous touhou games. It's like Super Mario, there's nothing wrong with using an engine that works perfectly well in their next... 30 sequels.

I'd do it in a Java-like language... it's just that FLASH handles the grrrraphics side for you, so all you have to do is script stuff.

But the core concept is the same; I could probably write a C# equivalent of what I have, once I find the corresponding functions. I keep on forgetting how to add shit to the sprite batch (because flash just lets you go attachMovie(), or addChild(), to add shit.)

the language is not what's important; the fact that you can move a metric fuckton of bullets while only slowing down to 30fps AT WORSE is what's important.
