What are your thoughts on the "ABe" aesthetic present in a lot of /jp/ stuff, anime, manga, games etc.
I mean things like texhnolyze, lain, wachenroder, Boogiepop, Blame!, valkyrie profile and others. They usually have a dark and ambient atmosphere and soundtrack and have a lot of advanced urban technology with an antiquated feel. Do you enjoy this sort of aesthetic?

I'd just like to point out that the image literally says "Range Murata" in it, Murata and ABe are good friends who worked on Wachenröder together (with the former mainly in charge of character designs), and it's clear the ABe aesthetic was heavily influenced by this early Murata phase.

ABe specifically is one of my favorite artists when it comes to mellow atmosphere. Here's an interview about how he got to where he is now.

It really shows now that you mention it.

It's great and I wish there was more of it.

I'm curious to check out more of ABe's work. He seems to choose projects with an emphasis on atmosphere which I'm a sucker for. I've only seen the anime for Haibane Renmei, Lain and Texhnolyze. Haibane is my favorite of the 3 (and probably overall for anime) and seems to be the one he was most involved with.

How are his printed works?

I really do enjoy the aesthetic. You'd think there'd be more copycats of the style but I've seen none, even amongst independent artists today

It was a huge influence on my tastes now, so yeah. I didn't even watch Texh or Lain when I first found out about them but I was enchanted by their paranoia and anxiety, mirroring feelings I was developing at that time.

For a long time I mixed up Murata and ABe because of this. Honestly though, I think I'm more a fan of Murata's works.
