Yes. That was me. I announced the project even earlier than that, actually ( http://archive.easymodo.net/cgi-board.pl/jp/thread/2544575 ), but hacking failed and the project failed to take off. As one of the translators stated, "I had really lost hope about this".
However, we recently ran into somebody who is probably able to hack the game, and both of the translators are still interested in translating it. This means that most likely, this time the project WILL take off.

However, because of the stuff that happened the first time around, I' m a little hesitant to just say "a Yosuga no Sora project has started!".
(That post is so far still my only tripfag post where I was wrong with news concerning a VN project. Sorry I jumped the gun back then, it doesn't happen very often that a project with translators fails because there's no hacker.)

Reverse engineering is a lot more than just extracting and inserting text and being able to work a hex editor. It includes archive and file formats (also including compressions and encryptions), working out kinks in the engine due to English text (speed, display, wordwrapping), and patching methods. Then there bytecoded scripts which are different from games using plain text scripts and require more skill like being able to write a decompiler and compiler. If a game has a protection on the EXE and you need to remove it, that's even more you need to know. You also need to know how to get past anti-debugging code. For most engines, an understanding of WinAPI will help greatly and an understanding of how VN engines (or virtual machines in general) work helps too. It gets even more complex than this if you want to work on something like rUGP.

Well, reverse engineering is a pretty advanced field of programming in itself, and it requires quite broad programming abillities with huge focus on encryption/decryption and filestructures in general, also "Assembly languages".
