thanks anon, was looking for 精霊幻想記 and only found the first few on nyaa and looks like that site does actually have the rest of the series, but damn you weren't kidding about the horrible dl options

/lit/ hates every japanese book that isn't osamu dazai though. and /a/ only allows discussions of light novels with anime/manga adaptations.
>>37615971
reading kino's journey right now after i dropped it a few years back. I'm still surprised that the fan translation effort is still "alive", for the book itself it's quite simplistic, the whole thing reads like a nihilist approach of fairy tale books that you'd read as a kid.
i also just finished reading all of sugaru miaki works and that was surely a ride. might be too overdramatic at times but i think it's part of the charm. shame that light novels of this kind never really gain traction outside of japan.

I don't really see any point in reading these super popular series, might as well wait for the manga or anime adaptation instead, since these series are so popular, the manga or anime will catch up to the source material eventually anyway. From what I've seen, the manga is close enough to the LN and is much more enjoyable, bad adaptation do exist though but 9/10 are good enough(for example the series in pic, the art of the manga adaptation kinda sucks to be honest but it's still in good enough zone, barely).
I just get into this recently, reading less poular stuffs, jumping straight from latest manga chapter. But after I heard how LN usually get axed without warning and most series that got axed have no proper ending, if there's no clear way to know if the series I read are in risk of getting axed or not, I don't know if this is worth it anymore.

>> No.37634041

I actually rather read lns than Mangas or watching their anime. While I do like watching their anime adaptations, it is an afterwards process post reading the source.

I despise reading in jpegs... Is there a way to transcribe images into text? I don't mind doing my own pdf/e-pubs at this point. I simply hate images reading half my enjoyment is reading in my kindle.
I have tried frog by tender owl. It is an image text to text transcriber and it works wonders but as soon as it is presented with tategaki, it commits sudoku.

not even sure what you're talking about, most adaptions are terrible and outright change, butcher, or leave out things from the original LN. a lot also end up incomplete with some original ending, animes especially usually just feel like a short promo for the LN since they usually only cover a few volumes and then never finish covering the source material.
honestly, you should probably just stick to reading complete LN series

>>37636590
just convert the images to pdf directly. i personally hate tategaki myself and tried to convert something years ago but it wasn't 100% and needed a lot of cleanup so i just gave up and put up with it

If you can't pirate in some e-book format, the only way is to buy (preferably on Amazon for easy de-DRM). OCR works like shit on Japanese text.

>most adaptions are terrible and outright change, butcher, or leave out things from the original LN
Right, that's the case for most anime, I was mostly thinking about manga when I typed that. Since the series I read are not that popular, the manga actually sold a lot more than the source material, so the manga is not actually there to promote the LN in my case.

I personally rather read a light novel to its manga or anime adaptation, they are there more to supplement with imagery what was read. I understand the aphantasia-lets or short time dopamine addicts, it is way easier to just watch anime. But there is more enjoyment to be had from reading in my experience.

Been reading 亡びの国の征服者 4 lately. That part where Yuuri had to put down Hoshikuzu after the dragon encounter injury really caught me off guard and had me shedding tears. The way he did it, and the fact that it had to happen shortly after the feeding scene. God what the hell.

Always have been wondering why 筺底のエルピス never really caught on in the West not even with people who read untranslated media. It's fabulous superpower SF where the powers are directly tied to various physical and chemical concepts. The battles are really varied and insane. It's really fast paced and has high-stakes right from the first book. The world and its development is superbly done, arguably to the point that the characters feels a bit sidelined and aloof at points but it comes together really well. The plot twists and use of foreshadowing are quite superb (the author mentioned that he usually constructs plot from the ending going back to the beginning, so he can ensure the conclusion he wants to arrive at, themes and world are tight and coherent). Only final chapter (planned to be split into two books) remains to be told (will probably take Okishi another three years to write or so).

Also, next Ryuuou in April. This time the special edition will be Shirabi's first artbook collecting his drawings for the series from the official ones to the rakugaki he posts on twitter. Cannot wait. Frankly, in the current ranobe landscape there isn't (at least to my knowledge) a series that would use the very format of its media so well. Ryuuou has been coming out for seven years or so and still each volume surprises me with how playful na inventive at times it can get with its writing, formatting and illustrations. Not to mention the characters and story which take you on a roller-coaster of emotion every volume. Considering this is Shiratori's magnum opus I really wonder what he will tackle after Ryuuou is done and if he'll manage to keep his drive he got with this series.

From what I could see the LN is pretty much identical in writing to the WN except with some extra content and a few characters that are a little more fleshed out. They also announced Volume 12 of the LN for January, which should be (?) the final volume, so I would go with the LN version.

the manga is okay, better than the anime but still skips a lot of shit from the story and only goes up to volume 4 of the ln (out of 12)
if you only want the cliffsnotes you can read it since it's a quick read anyways, but if you enjoy the general premise you should just read the novel
and once you're done with the main plot there's a huge amount of after and side stories on narou, which the author is still posting for free on a regular basis (latest release was three days ago)

Not that anon but I would agree completely about reading the Synopsis and enjoy the idea of what it entails you should read the LN honestly. I have been enjoying Youjo Senki and Re:Zero recently because I liked the premise and the Anime inspired me to read the Novel and it has so much more info and extra details that adds to the world itself that is missing Anime feels like an advertisement for the source material. Also about LN It's hard to explain but imagine a whimsically detailed worlds and characters that have development over the course of the story vs one and done stories we are use to. I might also recommend the Trails series if anyone likes the video game version of this as well where everything interconnects together over each game.
