I think it's bretty fucking sad how the Umineko fanbase is filled with people who didn't understand its message at all, who couldn't connect to the author on a deeper level than the average shonen anime consumer.
Ryukishi made a point of encouraging discussion and theories in both Higurashi and Umineko, as in picrel >>37569018 he even used his self insert Battler to share his thoughts on mystery novels through a meta narratively breaking monologue directed at the reader. He wanted us to continue discussing his legacy, to come up with as many crazy theories as humanly possible.
Yet the majority of his "fans" was too lacking in emotional intelligence and determination to understand him. They acted against his wishes and demanded a conclusive answer. The very same people who view the manga solution as the one single truth are those mindless goats he made fun of in episode 8, unable to think for themselves and pursuing one definite answer, completely disregarding the many possibilities Rokkenjima's catbox left them with.
It was sad to see this development unfold in real time, and it is even more sadness inducing to realize that Ryukishi turned his back on the mystery genre due to these people who consider themselves his fans.

I'm glad that Gou made this fact more widely understood by dumbing it down to wider audiences.

It's quite easy actually, while both Mion and Satoko were important plot devices in the OG Higurashi, Mion was far more central to the immediate plot revolving Keiichi and Satoko had a bigger influence on the grand scheme of things related to the curse and village.
But character wise Mion was far more fleshed out than Satoko of whom we barely saw any scenes before the answer arcs (irrelevant in Onikakushi, dies early in Watanagashi, disappears for half the novel in Tatarigoroshi and is non-existent in Himatsubushi).
Satoko's lacking presence as a character is so noticeable that ultimately Sotsugou was able to completely rewrite her personality and even long time fans defended that as natural in-character development.

In the end though, while Mion was worshipped as waifu#1 alongside Rena for a whole decade, Satoko's biggest feat was canonically being raped by Teppei in Tatarigoroshi.

Also, even in the original series she initially was convinced that her grandma killed Satoshi to the point of planning to strangle her as revenge, but was convinced otherwise by words alone at the end. She's relying entirely on trust rather than evidence, and HS corrodes that trust. This is no different from Shion also being convinced of the Sonozakis' innocence back in 1982, only for her to be de-convinced in Meakashi.

It is a simple truth, anon. Mion, as an individual character, is only truly important to Shion, where she arguably has to share the same level of importance with Satoshi and Satoko. Most of the time Mion is just kind of subsumed in the existence of the Sonozaki family as a whole, who are treated as an overarching threat in all arcs before Matsuribayashi, even if they're not really doing much.

She didn't believe in the curse ever in the OG Wata and Meakashi. Like I said there, even the 2nd episode had Shion talking with Kasai by themselves before and after the festival, and also Oishi, while Mion's only new long interaction is with Shion herself.

The third episode technically does have several Mion-only scenes, but it's also when the storytelling changes to quick cuts, without really focusing on any of those moments at all. Calling it Mion point of view is just a lie. It's clear the priority of the story was never Mion's character.

Why does Mion think Oryou was behind the curse if Shion was the one that triggered her? She believed her in the end and only slightly doubted her one and didn't even go through with it in the end and directly afterward she goes right back to praising the village sense of unity. Hell even the answer arc doesn't even line up with Watadamashi when she still goes through her Wata motions of praising the village.

Yeah it nothing literally happens for like 4 days yet suddenly she wants to kill her entire family for something Shion did? If it was her actual POV arc they would have actually explained why but the audience is given nothing other than guessing what Mion thought process is from past material that doesn't even line up with what we know of her. It's still Satoko POV arc because we the audience are following Satoko watching and trying to goad Mion into L5, and seeing her reactions and motivations to that. Not the other way around.
