Things to avoid:
・Anime cards (the guide by QM). It recommends words cards, which are proven to be less effective than targeted sentence cards (TSCs).
・Core 2.3k. It is based on a very old corpus and sorted in a way that makes learning harder. Try Ankidrone Starter Pack instead.
・Anacreon. Anacreon is an infamous spammer. He constantly hijacks our threads to shill his shit.
・Tadoku. A commercial site that pushes stories for learners (basically scam). The core principle of immersion learning is to consume native content. Just watch more anime or read manga.

Every time I go on Anki and start doing my reps I get incredibly tired after around 10 or 20 cards and I wind up feeling completely defeated for the rest of the day. I used to be able to review around 300 cards and add ~75 more each day but now I can't even review 30 or so without not being able to recollect much of anything about any of the vocab that comes up, even the easy stuff hurts my brain to try to remember.

Learned Hiragana and Katakana in less than a week. Been doing Anki core2/3k for five days, don't mind it too much. Have any of you guys found using the RTK book alongside Anki to be very constructive? Is immersing something you should be doing all the time passively, even before you know a lot of Kanji or grammar? Would going through Tae Kim at this point make immersing actively more productive?

I mean, it's an extremely easy sentence. "Nothing but water started to come out the shower", but maybe there's something I'm missing? Like, are Japanese showers supposed to have something other than water coming out?

Take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I went about it in a rather unusual way. I learned hiragana/katakana and the grammar first. I figured I would never need the kanji since learning kanji means you have to keep learning/repeating them on a regular basis for the rest of your life unless you live in an environment where you actually use them on a regular basis. So, once I was finished learning the grammar and the most basic kanji, I started listening to a lot of Japanese and reading it too with the help of add-ons like Rikaichan which allows you to hover over kanji you don't know to see its meaning. With the kanji barrier out of the way, I made very fast progress since the language itself isn't hard at all. Fast forward a few years, I figured I should learn kanji and I find that they're extremely easy to learn now for the following reasons:

1. I already recognize most recurring kanji because I've seen them all the time. I just wasn't able to write them and didn't know what radicals they're made up of.
2. For almost every new kanji, I already know the words they're used in. They don't feel new at all. It's like I'm just filling in the blanks.
3. It doesn't feel like I'm learning weird moonrunes. I'm learning the way to write the words I already know well. It's not tedious at all.

This approach takes a lot longer, but every time I see someone starting to learn Japanese and try to tackle hiragana/katakana, the grammar, vocab and the kanji all at once, I'm reminded of how difficult it was for me when I tried the same thing. Kanji isn't that important unless you're learning Japanese to work in Japan or something imo. I feel like it's more important to learn the language first.
