Does Nasu objectively suck? He seems to contribute a decent amount to FGO in epilogues/prologues and general oversight edits. Akiha didn't suffer for shit short of her blood which she literally delegated to Kohaku despite being intimately familiar with her trauma, Shiki lacking motivation beyond a weird lingering attachment probably comes down to it being a time of more prominent self-insertion so you having feelings going into the route is taken for granted, and I don't think retributional justice is ever right (applies to Kohaku too obviously) and if it all works out in the end it's fine.

I don't dislike Akiha, but seriously, she manages to be a bigger psycho-bitch than Kohaku and treats everyone but Shiki like shit. That's wrong. Vanilla EXTRA isn't amazing, but I still like it, I would say that it's decent. CCC is really good tho, maybe I'm being biased, but I think it's one of my favorite Type-Moon stories, it's also one of Nasu's favorite works.
CCC is good for characters like Sakura, Gilgamesh and Karna, they develop even more there, and you can see some fun new characters too. Previous EXTRA characters get some development there too.
I just don't like the battle system for both games, it's full RNG, but you can bypass it with cheat codes.

For Fate, probably because there are a lot of exposition and swords/magic training. For HF, the middle parts are very repetitive. Once Shirou gets Archer's arm until the last 2 days, most of the events can be summed up as some cooking, Sakura getting bedridden, Shirou's autism about how he is betraying his ideal,...etc. A lot of melodrama was happening for too long time.
I personally think that UBW has perfect pace as it benefits from the established Fate route, and also because it is the shortest route. I think you will find it boring if you don't like Medea that much as she is the mid boss for quite long time, but she is one of my favorites so that was only a plus.
