I'm sorry to have to beg but I would like to see some photos with a hiki atmosphere, it does not have to be completely, it is enough that it has a slight emanation. Images from the late 90s and early y2k in Japan are especially valuable. I'm also sorry if my English is not very good. Thanks.

For example, this documentary has a few moments with that environment that I find strangely comfortable, you know the computers and the "tidy chaos" of video game developers, but that do not have to do much with the Hikikomori. Everything related to the early Keitai culture is also appreciated.

Doesn't really count, but this movie about prison life in japan is surprisingly atmospheric. Here are some meal scenes that really capture it.

I know movie != real prison, even if it was based on the author's own experiences. But seeing this makes me wonder if low security prisoners in nipland live more fulfilling lives than your average hikki. They look like they eat better at least.

No, hikki are free. That's worth more than anything in the world.

I would argue a relatively comfortable prisoner who strives to better himself is better off than a miserable hikki with no motivation.
Of course this only applies to hikki with zero hope. Basically prisoners to themselves with the key to the cell thrown away a long time ago.

fixed. If the aren't trapped by their own disorder and agoraphobia then they aren't hikikomori.

>Suppose a man be carried, whilst fast asleep, into a room where is a person he longs to see and speak with; and be there locked fast in, beyond his power to get out: he awakes, and is glad to find himself in so desirable company, which he stays willingly in, i. e. prefers his stay to going away. I ask, is not this stay voluntary? I think nobody will doubt it: and yet, being locked fast in, it is evident he is not at liberty not to stay, he has not freedom to be gone. So that liberty is not an idea belonging to volition, or preferring; but to the person having the power of doing, or forbearing to do, according as the mind shall choose or direct. Our idea of liberty reaches as far as that power, and no farther. For wherever restraint comes to check that power, or compulsion takes away that indifferency of ability to act, or to forbear acting, there liberty, and our notion of it, presently ceases.

>We have instances enough, and often more than enough, in our own bodies. A man’s heart beats, and the blood circulates, which it is not in his power by any thought or volition to stop; and therefore in respect of these motions, where rest depends not on his choice, nor would follow the determination of his mind, if it should prefer it, he is not a free agent. Convulsive motions agitate his legs, so that though he wills it ever so much, he cannot by any power of his mind stop their motion, (as in that odd disease called chorea sancti viti), but he is perpetually dancing; he is not at liberty in this action, but under as much necessity of moving, as a stone that falls, or a tennis-ball struck with a racket. On the other side, a palsy or the stocks hinder his legs from obeying the determination of his mind, if it would thereby transfer his body to another place. In all these there is want of freedom; though the sitting still, even of a paralytic, whilst he prefers it to a removal, is truly voluntary. Voluntary, then, is not opposed to necessary but to involuntary. For a man may prefer what he can do, to what he cannot do; the state he is in, to its absence or change; though necessity has made it in itself unalterable.

I haven't spoken a word to, or seen another person in weeks. When I do see someone, it's when I'm passing them on the street, or when I'm forced to go to the store for something. What is agoraphobia but a desire to not be outside? I assume you have fears, like everyone else. Are you not free? If I didn't want to live in isolation I wouldn't. Have a discussion, if you want, but I'd prefer not to be lectured.

Wouldn't be surprised if smartphones helped kill these too. Your average 1K Android phone can emulate some of the best GameCube games without too many issues while having 4chan/2chan on another tab.

Doubt it because actually playing anything on a phone thats emulated is torture

I believe it was a western dude, but anyone has by any chance the greentext saga of a total shut fighting moths/flies, and almost literally swimming in trash? I believe it capped off with a semi-selfie in front of a busted microwave. That was like the bad ending for hikki but it was oddly cathartic at the same time.

That's what controller clips are for. I think everyone who talks about phone emulation uses them, since playing with a phone sucks for anything but pokemon otherwise. However, you need to be sure your phone actually fits whatever clip you choose. I bought one for my note 10 and it was slightly too small so it was essentially worthless.

Probably trying to evoke the imagery of galge and anime/manga that use hiragana in their titles. This would've been obvious if they put a star in the middle - びふぉーあふたー
In this case I'm certain "Before After" is also a reference to the Japanese home makeover TV show with the same title (in katakana, obviously).
