So /jp/ I'm finally going to buckle down and get a Japanese 360. I'm going to get Death Smiles since I enjoyed it at the local arcade. Any other suggestions in terms of JP region games, and probably a place to get a JP 360 w/ an HDD or cheap?

Also OP, making your own 360 hdd is definitely the cheapest way to go for that. The WD 120gb model you'd need runs about $50 on newegg, and if you don't have an enclosure already, can find one for 10-15 on ebay. You'll have to flash the hard drive's firmware, but theres plenty of guides out there.

If your console gets banned, you can still use your hard drive, as long as it's on the same console. If you move it to a different console, your saves won't work.

In other words, if your 360 is the only one you have, and the only one you ever intend on owning (and don't care about DLC or updates), then you don't need to worry about the hard drive issue.

Just to note; NCSX (http://www.shopncsx.com) is MUCH cheaper to ship your system and games, especially if you live in the U.S. (they're based in NY).
What I'd do: buy a cheap game from PA, use $5 off coupon for more expensive item, then do the rest off NCSX.
Only bad part is they run out of systems fast and times vary when they restock again, but over all they're very quick and easier to contact.

You know, that's the one problem I have never had, and I've owned two 360 consoles for a couple of years now.
I wonder what causes it.

Get some Microsoft Space Bucks to buy the Black Label DLC.

Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta! is alright if you want to just shoot things for a bit, but that's all. It's pretty shit if you want to do a decent run. It comes with a super-play DVD that is a guy milking enemies for ten minutes without moving. Ten minutes. I really want to know what they're saying on the commentary, although I imagine it's not "boy, we sure fucked this up."

Otomedius is really bad. I at least enjoyed Mamoru even if I can't be bothered to play it for score. Otomedius has two modes, you can either spam bombs or have nothing exciting happen for 25 minutes then get hit by the cheesetastic final boss and muse over how good your default gun is when it's on the left of the screen. The only good thing about this game is using touch screen to fondle your character for 3 sex offender achievements.

Mushihime-sama Futari is region-free, so people bitching should buy that and convince everyone else they know to do the same and they will consider doing it for all titles. Espgaluda II is next, so you had fucking better.

Didn't they pull DDP:DOJBLX when the horrible scandal hit? Gonna be kind of expensive now.

I had fun with it for the following reasons:

1. The Gofer sisters.
2. The pilots, especially Poini Coon.
3. Hilarious enemies and voice samples.
4. Just cute overall.

So it's not a game to play in order to be truly challenged, but it is a game to play if you want to smile and just enjoy the parody of it all. Plays really well with the Hori controller as well.

No, but over 90% of them require only very minimal Japanese knowledge, such as knowing yes/no/default buttons, etc. Games such as the original Idolmaster and any RPGs require much more Japanese knowledge. Idolmaster also pisses me off due to its randomized choice selection, making a rough translated walk-through impossible.

Damn I so hate the randomized choices especially when they need to perform, random comment at morning greeting, good or bad; random comment when introducing themselves to the judges, good or bad; and random comment before she goes on stage, good or bad; and if you don't do it all well enough she'll perform worse.

Fuck you Im@s that's the only thing I really hate about it. Save reload, save reload, save reload .... bleh

You sound so angry Anonymous.
Just to clarify, I don't own any modded current consoles and I actually buy all my games. The last modded system I owned was the original XBOX, and that was only so I could use XBMC.
You're certainly right that I have loaded copied PC games in order to play on a LAN with friends, but they're always games I have no interest in buying or keeping.
If I have a great interest in a game, I'd much rather have something tangible to hold and collect. The collector mentality is probably why I have tons of games I haven't even started yet, but I enjoy the fact that they're there on my shelf when I have time to play them.

OP here, and I pretty much have the collector's mentality this anon does. I really love owning the games that I enjoy, and having the case/manual/extras with it are just damn nice to have on my shelf. Which is why I bought Disgaea 1+2 for my PSP even though I have them on my PSP's Memory Stick.

It really isn't something I understand myself. I mean I get trophies on my PS3 which is essentially the same thing, but I don't buy/complete games to get them. The people who don't buy Valkyria Chronicles because it doesn't have trophies make me sick. Reminds me though, can I turn off the achievement notifications? It's annoying that I can't turn them off on my PS3.

Yeah, I agree that it is rather silly. I own plenty of games with no significant achievements/trophies and I really don't care. I will have to admit that it is a brilliant marketing ploy to suck people into out-doing their friends by having more games and thus higher scores.

I believe it is based on the region coding of the DVD format rather than the games or systems themselves. It's a DRM technique so movie studios can control all aspects of who gets what and when. Game systems just picked up and used the existing format.
