Also OP, making your own 360 hdd is definitely the cheapest way to go for that. The WD 120gb model you'd need runs about $50 on newegg, and if you don't have an enclosure already, can find one for 10-15 on ebay. You'll have to flash the hard drive's firmware, but theres plenty of guides out there.

Aside from a few technical terms, the writing isn't particularly difficult. If you've read any untranslated VNs before, then you'd probably able to handle it.

If not, then you should probably work on your Japanese some more first. It's long (50 hours), and wouldn't be particularly interesting unless you understood what was going on.

You can flash the 360's dvd drive with hacked firmware to play burned copies of games. Unfortunately, they can detect it now somehow, so if you connect to live with it, your console will get banned. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're only going to play offline and don't intend to get any DLC, at least until an update comes out that can't be detected anymore.

It can still be used on the original console. It's just that a new console will show your saves as corrupted.

There is a way to get your saves to work on a different console, but it requires the use of a memory card and, obviously, another console.

...let me clarify a bit.

If your console gets banned, you can still use your hard drive, as long as it's on the same console. If you move it to a different console, your saves won't work.

In other words, if your 360 is the only one you have, and the only one you ever intend on owning (and don't care about DLC or updates), then you don't need to worry about the hard drive issue.

My only concern, since 360 has a percentage rate of getting the RRD, is there way to get your JPN Xbox covered with a warranty if you live in the U.S.?
That's the only way I'll import the system till that shit gets finally fixed, or at least becomes convient for tech shops to fix it.

Stupid thing did that to my Idolmaster the first time I put it in the drive! Microsoft said it wasn't their fault and wouldn't fix it saying I must've 'improperly loaded' the disk like I'm some damn 2 year old who doesn't know how to put a disk in a drive. Play Asia was willing to replace it but I refused because it wasn't their fault. I had to send the disk away to a service for repair and cross my fingers the stupid thing doesn't do it again.

Just to note; NCSX (http://www.shopncsx.com) is MUCH cheaper to ship your system and games, especially if you live in the U.S. (they're based in NY).
What I'd do: buy a cheap game from PA, use $5 off coupon for more expensive item, then do the rest off NCSX.
Only bad part is they run out of systems fast and times vary when they restock again, but over all they're very quick and easier to contact.

Alternatively, if you want shmups just buy the upcoming region free Cave games and if they sell well enough then they'll do it to their other upcoming releases as well (DS2, etc)

Mamoru-kun wa Norowarete Shimatta! is alright if you want to just shoot things for a bit, but that's all. It's pretty shit if you want to do a decent run. It comes with a super-play DVD that is a guy milking enemies for ten minutes without moving. Ten minutes. I really want to know what they're saying on the commentary, although I imagine it's not "boy, we sure fucked this up."

Otomedius is really bad. I at least enjoyed Mamoru even if I can't be bothered to play it for score. Otomedius has two modes, you can either spam bombs or have nothing exciting happen for 25 minutes then get hit by the cheesetastic final boss and muse over how good your default gun is when it's on the left of the screen. The only good thing about this game is using touch screen to fondle your character for 3 sex offender achievements.

Mushihime-sama Futari is region-free, so people bitching should buy that and convince everyone else they know to do the same and they will consider doing it for all titles. Espgaluda II is next, so you had fucking better.

Just to clarify, I don't own any modded current consoles and I actually buy all my games. The last modded system I owned was the original XBOX, and that was only so I could use XBMC.
You're certainly right that I have loaded copied PC games in order to play on a LAN with friends, but they're always games I have no interest in buying or keeping.
If I have a great interest in a game, I'd much rather have something tangible to hold and collect. The collector mentality is probably why I have tons of games I haven't even started yet, but I enjoy the fact that they're there on my shelf when I have time to play them.

I believe it is based on the region coding of the DVD format rather than the games or systems themselves. It's a DRM technique so movie studios can control all aspects of who gets what and when. Game systems just picked up and used the existing format.
