But in practice, I usually find myself caring less about the gacha because no cute characters tied to it, and caring less about the characters because no saving or struggle to try to get who I want.

Despite there being only 1 button, you can use the hold attack to cancel chains to maximize damage or make use of the iframes from some of the characters attack chains depending on what the enemy is doing. They put the more boring and straightforward characters first but the later ones have been actually be fun to play. Maxime is a little fag but there's a lot of decisions you can make with that 1 attack button when his charge attack shotguns 3 arrows into enemies up close and his attack chain ends up with a fuck ton of iframes in the air where you can rain death on any enemy on the screen. The latter being much safer but shotgunning arrows is much higher DPS so there's a skillcap involved based on how much time you want to invest into learning the games intricacies which I think is cool. I've had characters jump over attacks with an attack animation that doesn't have iframes and dodge the hit so the hitboxes seem to be decent too.

Lisette was probably the moment when the game clicked for me and I realized that it was actually good, there were shades of it during August's story but the stance swapping was a bit clunky. I wasn't digging it at first either but once it clicked I realized it's actually great. Free daily pulls, very casual friendly with new 2 story chapters added every week which gives about 3 10 rolls, and the gacha itself is absolutely useless outside of coop because of how everything scales to your equipment level which makes it a very good side game in my opinion. If you ignore the coop grind you can treat it as a single player game that gets constant updates and there is 0 need to roll the gacha to progress. If they fix the retarded camera it'll be bordering on kamige but there's a good chance it shuts down in a few months because of how little incentive there is to whale.
