You will need some ranged backup strategy if you are going melee. I don't know how good hand-to-hand is generally, but I hear that the damage scales very well in the super late game. At that point mages reign supreme though because spells are ranged and cannot be dodged.

So I have a nice team going. Android, Defender, Dragonchild, and Ouroboros(Sprite of Robot). I just finished teaching the first 3 Shining Wave, with Ouro being more of a specific healer.

If meleers don't have Shadow Step, you should definitely start with that.
Swarm is good too, but any pets that use Uncontrol will need to be set up to not use it while next to a friendly target.
Anyone using Martial Arts should definitely have Attribute and Body Blow, probably Explosive Fist, and maybe Clear Mind.

Yes, but you can remove the speed nerf vs bosses by nuking some code that looks something like this. I haven't looked into the changes to the turn caps but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

That bell has innate 2000 Speed, right? So it's not going to gain much AP unless you reset its stats. On the other hand, it's already at the highest possible Speed, so you won't need to buy any if you don't reset it.

Anyone mind telling me what slots I should go for on a mutant to maximise multi-attacks? All I understand is that I can't go all hands, but I don't really know how many is acceptable and what other slots do I go for then.

It is complicated. On one hand, going with like, 4-6 Hands and the rest Arms (maybe Neck for the Twin Edge) is good because you get a whole lot of +hit and +damage, so you can actually hit pretty reliably with all of your swings. This is effective surprisingly early, as it starts to really come online in like, early Act 2 and beyond. One major benefit of this is that you are not even really a glass cannon, since you still have tons of DV and PV from all the +10 gloves etc. and +3 life from Rubynus (which has the highest +hit). Peridot's also work for this as well since they give +hit. I don't know what the optimal number of weapons is, but I prefer 4-5, and I feel that 6 is kind of pushing it (which is mostly just a stat stick at that point).

On the other hand, in the *super* endgame all hands is technically optimal. A critical strike *always* hits regardless of how shit your accuracy is unless they have Greater Evasion, but from testing critical hits still hit the majority of the time even against endgame enemies who have Greater Evasion. So once you have a ludicrously high Eye of Mind skill, as well as stacking critical chance equipment you can just carry around whatever fucking weapons you want and treat critical % as your chance to hit. But this is like, 1500+ stats and skill levels of endgame. I would just stick with the first build and character edit if you happen to be far enough for this to actually work.

Holy fuck. I've just discovered a feature of marking items you can't drop, and also mass drop using d -> *. And I've read it in one of the lessons of inventory management in game in school building. That's normal. The chance to use a skill that's being learned is very small initially. Personally, I set pets to only use the new move and then hang out in the Puppy Cave until they learn it.

I wish there was a picnic basket that trained attributes instead of increasing potential. Feeding each of my pets one by one is cumbersome.

That code gives unique npcs buffs to their damage dealt multiplier and damage received divisor that scale with the ratio of their opponent's speed to their own. Basically raising your own speed starts making bosses stronger once your speed is greater than theirs. When Ano first added this, he made the advantage scale exponentially by buffing damage in both directions, but he since removed it from damage dealt by the npc.

It's total bullshit because the game up to this point has been designed with it in mind.
The yowyn cat house quest and the Frisa fight both revolve around dealing with a boss with insane speed, and the unique challenges that poses.
It's also tied into the awakening point system.
The idea that these speed mechanics "don't feel right" is absurd as they've always been part of the design and identity of the game.
I'm holding out for a tweak or version that reverts the changes since they're really bad.

Should've taken away the damage reduction and left in the damage boost instead. Giving unique NPCs more HP basically does nothing when you can disengage and recover as many times as you want by having more speed, damage at least softcapped your speed advantage by raising the risk of getting oneshotted if you outspeed bosses too hard. The mechanic is basically just gutted and a new source of tedium now.

99% of the enemies in the game aren't more than 5x your speed anyway, so it's pretty much a non-change. Bells, quicklings, and like 2 bosses in each of the first two regions are all I can think of that are even faster than that, and and they're mostly easy fights anyway once you know how to deal with their gimmick. The most significant bonuses are generally Thief for 100% stealth crit and Warmage +5% cast. One thing with Thief is that it applies to ranged attacks too, so they end up being hilariously powerful archers.
Magic can't crit, but melee and ranged can.

Also don't sweat it *too* much, you can change your class later.

Little girl is probably the best pick, but it really doesn't matter outside of the early game, so you could pick another pet and do gene engineering for extra slots, and in plus later try to evolve them or something. You can also buy little girls at Derphy at any time, but the other pets need to be caught with monster balls, which are rare in the early game.

A spider with a strong poison attack might be interesting, though its otherwise relatively weak. You could also consider wasps if you want an early game poison pet. In general for oddball pets you probably want to look for pets with interesting abilities since a lot of them are gimped stat-wise.

How soon should I try to get a ranch/herb farm going? My potentials are already "Bad" and I'm only level 11, but I don't have a lot of gold. Am I gimping myself hard, so should I try and focus on that ASAP?

I did a black widow, it needs a ton of slots but it does seem to dunk on a lot of enemies with poison. I may try a paralyzer too. I did a lizard man just to have a generic tank pet, lighting breath when I evolve her may or may not be useful, we'll see.

Why are adventurers so fucking useless? I've hired four so far and they barely engage enmies. I had 2 wizards, a guy with a bow and sword and a guy with kunai and they all let enemies assrush me and beat on me and occasionally attack one now and then.

Herb farming is a good idea, yes. You'll need to do a ton of gardening time quests for skillups and seeds though.
Ranches become useful a bit later since you need eggs for picnic baskets.

The training day skill groups are the ones you need to level up to get DESTINY letters.
You should have the Pickpocket skill anon, it's essential.
You don't need to join the thieves guild for it. Just use rods to teleport around the guildhall, and incognito to get it from a trainer.
It'll probably take you a few tries, but it really helps in the long run.

There you can manage the attack/status text.

You can make your sprite whatever you want, but you have to set it up yourself.
The default is meant to give you a generally workable and customizable spriteset that can display equipment.
If I'm playing a race like lich or golem, I usually just use an appropriate static sprite.

You can pickpocket a rod from Vernis if you're having a dry spell. You'll need to learn pickpocketing first though, which in turn requires the incognito spell/scroll/mirror.
