I finally gave episode 1 a watch. I assume most of the cliche melodramatic romantic BS won't carry entirely to the next episodes so I won't touch on that. The mystery on the other hand could go either way and to be honest with you I'm not holding my breath. Free TV dramas rarely have good mysteries nowadays.
With that being said, the drama should at least be worth watching for Tanaka Minami and Oikawa Mitsuhiro.

friends, i've got a fun idea for a Hero Yoshihiko movie/season 4

Open with Jiro Sato ambushing Takayuki Yamada in some real life situation, completely unexpectedly, and demand he get back to his mission of killing the Demon King until he starts playing along.
Then, do the same thing to Shin Takuma, Haruka Kinami, and Tsuyoshi Muro, reenacting what the characters did in Episode 11 of the first season but from the perspective of their real lives being them tricked by the Demon King and they need to go back to playing their parts.

It'd be like quasi-documentary style and really meta. Perfect for Yoshihiko. Great idea or Great idea?

That was a wild episode.
I believe what Hishida's son found in the closet is shiitake mushroom being cultivated. Hishida heard from his wife that he loves shiitake so she grew them in her closet. With the planting soil delivered by Batako to Ryosuke's company in episode 3, I can say that Batako's identity is indeed Hishida. With that being said, I still think she's just a bait not a real culprit.

For dramas like Soredemo Ikite Yuku, I recommend watching dramas written by Sakamoto Yuji, the same guy who wrote Soredemo Ikite Yuku. He's been writing screenplays for 32 years now so he has shit loads of works. His recent works from the last few years are pretty good, for example

For sure, Bounce Ko Gals definitely is more a traditional story with traditional cinematic framing and character arcs, and its acting is lightyears better, too. But I think Love & Pop reflects Anno's anime/TV sensibility, where it's more a story centered around a theme with episodic elements tying into that theme.

It is weird to think that here in 2021 and in the future, more people will watch Love & Pop than Bounce Ko Gals just because Anno directed it, though. Even if Bounce Ko Gals is a superior production.

Brilliant movie, surprisingly well cast and has a great soundtrack too. Sequel when?

I like Love & Pop exactly because of those experimental qualities, though. It's not just technical appreciation either, I think the story works great as a companion piece to the End of Eva (the protagonist is kind of an Asuka analogue, very clear thematic and visual parallels) and those technical aspects of the filmmaking do a ton to elevate it too, the voyeuristic camera and naturalistic, guerilla production and acting make the film so immersive and even more stressful, digusting and horrifying.
