Ryougi's has a stronger connection to the root than Tohno's.

Ryougi's and Tohno's are also effective on different things because their views on what it means to live and to die are different, or something like that. For example, iirc there was a statement along the lines of Ryougi not being to cut a phone that's broken beyond repair because as she's concerned, it's already "dead," but Tohno would be able to cut it just fine.
There's probably something else I'm forgetting though, this is all just off the top of my head.

The eyes are the same. The brain is different. Tohno specializes in killing living things while Ryougi specializes in the visualization of concepts. Both are connected to the root. Ryougi was born connected which is why she says she's essentially one and the same as it. Ryougi doesn't seem to see points like Tohno does but she has way less kickback in general from using them. Her most impressive kill was probably killing a future that was given 'form' by her enemy. Tohno's is hard to say. Not counting remake, it might be killing Roa possessing him or the world around them. Stronger is kind of a pointless question since either Shiki is going to kill you with one successful attack. It's more that they are just tuned differently. It seems a lot also goes into how they understand/perceive things generally. Like Ryougi not seeing lines on a broken telephone because she can't see it as alive. Though if I had to pick, I'd say I would rather fight Ryougi. She probably wouldn't kill the building under me at least.

It has nothing of what I liked about her look. I liked how out of place she looked in a Japanese setting and even compared to the rest of the cast, so it really made sense when people comment how out of place she looks, further cemented by how even back then what she was wearing wasn't really "in fashion" at the time. I liked how due to it's modesty it gave her a serene proper atmosphere fitting of her "royalty" roots. The main thing I liked was the juxaposition: the clothing gives her an extremely mature, older woman vibe yet she is actually extremely childish and easily excitable.

None of this shows itself in the new design, and it's clear everything I liked about the old design was completely by accident. Also it's too similar to Rin Tohsaka's fashion. And her hair being incredibly normal now and losing it's stylized angles is a major crime.

It's funny, when they first showed it off years ago I didn't get the distaste for it. But now as the days go on the more I can't really gel with the new look. Ther's many things I dislike about the redesigns of the entire cast, but I would go so far as say I don't think it works for Arcueid at all. I think Melty Blood Type Lumina especially shows just how much of a miss I think it is.

You might say "who cares, it's still doing well" but a lot of Japanese companies are incredibly autistic about things succeeding in their country and don't care at all about success they're getting internationally. Deconfirmed at launch, because it wants to focus on the remake characters. Kouma and Miyako can afford to show up since they're relatively unimportant characters, Kouma has relevance in Shiki's past and serves as the game's archetypal grappler but he has no bearing on anything relevant so Nasu won't get mad over him showing up. According to French Bread, Nasu was involved quite a bit in the development, even going as far as to request characters play a certain way (he suggested Noel be a beginner friendly character) so it makes sense he'll keep things limited to TsukiR for this what-if prequel before he starts getting hammy like he did with Melty Blood's story.
Again, he would not go this far in recasting and redesigning everyone, spending decades perfecting his baby just to then throw it in a dumpster. While plenty of things will be shuffled around or changed, the grand scheme likely will not. Sion and Warachia will just show up later. Lately I've been playing some [龍が如く 維新!] to try to get over the post-Tsukihime Remake depression... and there is one particular line that made me think back to Ciel's normal ending. I missed most of the early discussions when the Remake came out, so that's probably already been discussed a lot, but what do you guys think of Shiki's decision? I think Shiki's choice is very human and I would never blame him for that, but was it really the best decision in regards to the one he loved? Just as Shiki wished for Ciel's happiness, Ciel wished for Shiki's happiness, it is this genuine feeling that leads to her sacrifice. With the life he was given, he decided to give up a potential "normal life" that he and Ciel cherished so much, but decided to live for both of them, taking over Ciel's mantle so to speak, while pursuing something that could lead to more and more suffering. I think Shiki's decision is very admirable, but do you think that deep down, this is what Ciel would have cherished for Shiki? I absolutely loved the normal ending, but I can't shake the feeling that everything could go wrong for Shiki. What do you guys think?

I think it started with Melty Blood, with Nrvnqsr being the one to appear in that game instead of Roa. It's kind of like Zouken's death in HF where he's reminded at the very end what his motive was in the first place. Roa's done better though because you get to see glimpses of his life through Shiki's dreams so you understand how he feels towards Arc. He fights alongside Shiki because of Arc who he loves so much, and then wakes up from 1000 years of infatuation when he sees what she's become. The reason he ends up lending Shiki his the last bit of his power is because Shiki asks if it doesn't piss of that Arc won't even look at the *both of them* which is a great line that highlights their similarities.

The only real anime that tends to get recommended is Kara No Kyoukai's adaptations. Fate's adaptations all have glaring flaws; Studio DEEN's has poor animation in fights and no regard for atmosphere, Ufotable's are better but still faced considerable issues portraying Shirou properly which is a major issue considering he's the meat of the story.
Everyone here will recommend you read the visual novels. If you seriously can't bring yourself to read them, then you're shit out of luck and will end up watching confused versions. I think the direction they are taking is one of chaos. Roa is going to initiate the ritual of France all over again and the Remake really plays up the idea that Shiki is his enemy. The true end says that Roa's only regret was that until the bitter end, Shiki lacked the means to be his enemy as Shiki lacked the will to kill him, despite being the only one in the world who truly could.
Contrast that to the Arc end where Shiki abandons his humanity. I fully suspect Roa to be scumbag mode turned up to 11 in True Arc since that version of him will be a proper reincarnated Roa.
Kouma is interesting. He's never really been portrayed as a true villain. It was nothing personal, kid, basically. I do want some showdown since Shiki and Kouma are parallels to Kouma and Kiri but I kind of doubt it would end in a fatality.
