Yes, yes, and yes, which is why the split is nonsense. Nasuverse isn't really a super coherent setting, there's a lot of weird little contradictions (Atlas and Counter Force being redundant to one another) and confusing elements (don't try and look into how magic circuits work or how they're initially created, for one) but all these elements still exist as part of a larger whole. They were literally made with the wider setting in mind. Now not only is Nasu trying to cordon off Magi stuff from Church stuff (remember when F/HA talked about some Executors like Kirei being specialized into mage hunting?) but also making a bunch of needlessly confusing nonsense changes (DAAs being weaker in some timelines, Blackmore sometimes being dead, Zepia not being a phenomenon, Zelretch not being a vampire even though he's supposed to exist independent of the timeline, yada yada). Don't even get me started on the new rules for how timelines work where they don't branch infinitely anymore.

Exactly, the other big issue with tying magi to Servantshit is that none of the actually cool stuff they do is explored. Early Case Files before the train story was really good because it explored just how weird and inhuman magi can get in their fruitless quest for the Root and introduced all sorts of cool ideas. The monster of the week type stuff in the first half of the anime adaptation was also great for the same reason even if it wasn't as well written as the LNs. Yet Case Files shot itself in the foot by making itself about Servants. At least the sequel series is mostly focused on weird magic stuff and gods instead of Servants or the HGW (though I'm still pissed we didn't get the Church-focused series Sanda wanted to do instead).

Lorelei is the most glaring example of why separating magi from Church/Vampire stuff just plain makes no sense. In 2017 Nasu decided that rather than everything taking place in basically the same setting, all of the Fate stories now take place in "Fate timelines" where the 27 DAAs aren't a coherent group and various random things are different (Gransung is dead, Zepia is a normal DA rather than a phenomenon and still big cheese over at Atlas, and Zelretch isn't a vampire). well they originally planned a Square Enix game when Nino was working for Square but plans fell through. Contracting game devs and working together on IP is hard and working with someone like Nasu who wants control of the whole project at least narrative wise creates risks. I'm sure they have something planned and kept secret that they'll reveal next year for the 20th anniversary. TM is a slow company that is still stuck in the doujin days so making crazy moves like making a AA game with a company like Platnium probably isn't something they want to do. They're conservative with making games ever since FGO so who knows what they've been doing for so long besides working on FGO. Not usually the one for "interconnected world" shit, sometimes the connection isn't necessary, but I also feel that embracing multiverses in such a lazy way that is currently is a copout that always makes the universe less interesting as a whole.
