I kind of find it funny that Shirou always calls her by her family name, even when he's having sex with her.

It's important to realize what Akiha's behavior means. When she apologizes for her behavior, it's an admission that the fault is in her. She knows the way she acts is wrong, maybe she can't stop herself from being a bitch but she definitely and clearly feels guilty about it. And when she tearfully confesses her undying semi-incestuous love, it's a sign that her world doesn't revolve around herself and her own pride and status.

Rin never admits she's wrong. Rin never shows any sign of thinking she should be nicer, not even to the man she supposedly loves. That tells me that who Rin really loves the most is Rin, and that is just not appealing to me.

I honestly would like Rin 100% more if there was even one single scene, preferably in her own route (for example at the point where she and Shirou are walking toward their impending doom at the hands of Caster & Friends) where she would just apologize for giving so much shit to him. Even one or two short lines to that effect would make a huge difference to the way she comes across.

If you think about it that way, yeah, I suppose they fit each other. It's well established early on that Shirou puts up with the kind of shit no normal person would and doesn't think twice about it (ie. the scene where Shinji tells him to clean the archery track so that he can bone his fanclub at peace - don't tell me you wouldn't have told Shinji to stuff the mop up his arse).

But when I read a visual novel written in the first person, I kind of automatically put myself in the place of the protagonist and grade all actions and characters based on my own values. Immersing myself strongly into the story, I get frustrated if the protagonist is required to act vastly differently from how I would want to, and like or dislike characters independently of what the protagonist thinks of them.

Of course, I could write a long explanation as to why I dislike her filled with examples from the game, but I will keep it simple by saying she just didn't click with me and I just felt indifferent towards her through all of her scenes.

Akiha's bitchiness is mostly endless hateful or disapproving glares, often about trivial things such as breaking her bullshit curfew rules. Rin's is either screaming anger or (more often) "how stupid can you be"-facepalming. They're not really all that far removed from each other, suppose it's a matter of tastes which brand gets under your skin more, but I found Akiha easier to tolerate because she's often visibly worried for her Nii-san and, like already said in this thread, apologizes for being such a bitch in the end. Also, there's a sense of equality in her hate, while Rin looks down on you like you're just too dumb to live (Shirou kind of is but shut up, I'm trying to make a point here).

It's true that Rin seemed a lot more humble and vulnerable in the prologue. I would have loved it if she stayed that way.

Akiha's snark is mostly control-related, I've found. Taking KT, Tsukihime, and the Plus Disc into account, her personality from the day-to-day is about order and her way, and she's not above things like torturing small, defenseless animals (Akira). She doesn't consider being a Magi a burden, she's never given voice or thought about her mother in a loony bin. She hates her teacher, but tolerates him anyway. She essentially pushes on to everyone else what she does to herself--you've got errors, so fix them if you can.

She has her other flaws, but I'm too caught up picturing Sakura/Akiha in my head still, on top of swapping Rin for SHIKI's imouto.

Ok so, anyone else notice in Tsukihime and FSN how some characters become infinitely more desirable in another characters route? For example Arc in Ciel's route, that scene where she tries to make you her familiar was hot as hell, I liked Akiha way more in Kohaku's route, and in FSN Saber is a LOT better in UBW than in the fate route.
