Speaking of the fighting game, I finally decided to read Tsukihime thanks to it and where the hell did the movesets for the game even come from? In the VN:

>Roa fights with a knife and similar eyes to Shiki
>Akiha calmly walks around fighting by looking at people from long range and using her hair
>Shiki can't do any sort of attack at all other than slashing super fast, unless he goes into Nanaya mode where he gets faster but still only slashes since his body is weak

The thing is that Nasu almost immediately regretted how little action was in OG Tsuki after he wrote it. It’s just plain not an action VN, even though there are a few big action scenes (Nrvnqsr in Near Side and Shiki vs SHIKI in Akiha). Melty on the other hand is a fighting game so action has to be a major focus, so the characters are portrayed in significantly more powerful ways.

The manga is basically a “golden” version of Arc route with stuff from Ciel and Akiha added in, so it does stuff that Nasu would’ve done if he had done TsukiR back around that time (like Roa having his lightning). It's not "fanfic", it's Nasu correcting his mistake. He's got it in TsukiR too, because TsukiR was made thanks to Nasu getting mogged by Sasaki Shonen.

Hisui and Kohaku are not fighters in the actual canon. In Melty they are basically gag characters with actual movesets gameplay-wise, and there’s a handwave lore justification about them being creations of Zepia’s TATARI.

The only thing you actually have a point on is Shiki’s kicks, since those aren’t really part of the Nanaya Arts which are more focused on the use of a weapon and extremely fast/agile movement. Even Kiri who actually mastered the Arts doesn’t really use kicks. That said Nanayas can run on ceilings and shit so presumably the legs can do SOMETHING

I see, I will check out the manga then. The thing about Akiha in special is that her 2 big fight scenes in Kohaku's route describe her as pretty much a slow zoner. She calmly walks around spreading hair over the school, attacking from long range with her heat stealing sight and constricting with her hair, doing area damage and setting traps. Shiki even says something like if he gets close he wins but if she can remain at a range she wins. You'd expect her to play like Vlov, but instead she is doing air backflips while slashing and she has garbage range and wants to get close in the game. I get the point about Hisui and Kohaku being joke fighters, but again I'd expect Hisui to be the one with a hidden sword (thanks to the way she reacts to Shiki's knife) while Kohaku should fight with poisons or something. Also weird how they're tag fighters with each other and with a bunch of joke characters in the old Melty when every time they're "tag fighting" in the VN is either Kohaku/Akiha, Kohaku/Shiki or Hisui/Shiki which aren't playable. Basically I'm rambling but I had a completely different idea of Tsukihime's fights from having played the games first.

Just finished Hisui's route. The story between Shiki and Hisui was very sweet but the route was uneventful, overall. Since everything just went according to Kohaku's plan, Shiki lacked too much agency even though he's the protagonist. The endings were mixed bags for me. Akiha should've lived in True while Kohaku should've truly died in Good (with one's memory being similar to oneself I guess Kohaku did die but not really what I'm trying to say), but Hisui's parts were good for each of the endings. Structure of the route feels off relative to the other routes due to its passivity so not sure how to compare it with other routes. I also miss hanging out with Arihiko and Ciel.
Kohaku dying in True made sense with her disposition and makes me curious on how they'll tackle with saving her in her route especially since Ciel's route dealt with atoning for one's sins. SHIKI deserves a happy ending too, too.

Hisui's true ending is the best overall, both in writing and for the universe. Think about what it means for the other girls:

Akiha essentially kickstarts the VN to try to get some nii-san dick, Satsuki has a pretty blatant crush on Shiki before the game starts, Arc physically can't get over him in near side, Maids are a bit more reserved at the start but Shiki already has (or thinks he has) important childhood friend memories with either and they kinda just let him in if he tries without too much resistance, assuming he actually picks that one. Kohaku's feelings are more complicated but she's functionally down after Shiki realizes it's her ribbon. Ciel takes a quick liking to Shiki, thinks he's a good person and is generally willing to help in any route when he asks, but she's still really just here for Roa. It takes a fairly long amount of time for either of them to recognize their feelings for each other properly, near the end of the route, and she tries to shoo Shiki off from her and her mission multiple times before that, including trying to kill Shiki when that becomes her mission.

Yeah she hits him a couple times here but there's no damage on the CG. I wonder how they'll do this scene in particular, it was pretty fast. There's a couple of CGs that were really bad about it, like the one where Arc is fucking up Ciel. They do a pretty good job of keeping battle damage on Shiki now though.

Fate/Zero is all Nasu's idea, Urobuchi just put it into words. The only character Urobuchi created was Maiya, that's why in Heaven's Feel, when Kotomine explains to Shirou how Kiritsugu was, he said to Shirou that Kiritsugu killed Keyneth, because in Nasu's plan Maiya didn't exist

There is an entire part in the Case Files Material that is setting lore written by Nasu himself (like the timeline and all of that)
