Yeah I agree, but it does help get a feel for the language tho, like I said obviously I cant follow along with a conversation, but there has been some increase in understanding of when a word ends and the sounds. For example when i watch a chinese or korean show im just completely lost, I couldnt tell you what is a word or not. Obviously its not as good as complete immersion to increase comprehension, but it definitely makes the learning curve just a little easier.

What I do: First is I read along with the audio (either subtitles in a page like format as the show plays, or digital book along with the audio book). Key thing I do is pause when I come across an unknown word/phrase, quickly look it up, then try to replay the sentence.

After that, I try to watch the show or listen to the audio book normally in addition to playing the audio on look for a day or so in the background. Sometime later, I might add the entire book or show to Anki and study words based on frequency in the text (and all previous texts added).

Sometime much later, I might even do a re-read along with audio if Morphman's readability analysis says the book or show is now at 95% readability or higher, the do the play the audio in the background again. This audio though I'll add to a playlist of high comprehensible audio I play on random in the background (it's around 30 to 40 hours of audio so lots of variety).
