So after that other Anon talked about guides written in Japanese I've been searching for and reading various guides written in Japanese about how to reach fluency. I'm not sure which guide that Anon was talking about but wow a lot of these guides are recommending things that seem pretty logical that I had never considered and that aren't mentioned in any of the popular English guides. Definitely give some of them a read if you're not a beginner anymore, it might help you reach your goal a little faster.

Okay so after several years of anime, gachashit and doujins I can read basic japanese and have a decent sense for the grammar and a pretty good mental list of audio vocabulary. How do I take it from here in order to become actually decent enough at the language to read books and in general content meant for adults? Most of the resources or step guides I've seen including the fancy ones in the OP assume you're a novice and have no worthwhile previous knowledge of the language, which isn't really what I need. I just want to take the jump from "I know enough japanese to enjoy simple media" to "I know enough japanese to consume all types of content in a meaningful way", and since I haven't followed guides previously just skipping ahead in one of them doesn't give terribly good results.
