Now, I've only recently begun getting interested in Mahjong, thanks to a friend of mine introducing it to me.I understand the rules in the most basic fashion, I can tell which tiles are which, I know the basic hands and so forth.

I was wondering where I could get some experience in actually playing the game. There aren't any Mahjong clubs in my area, so I restricted mainly to the internet.

What I have learned is based on the japanese mahjong style, so that is why I bring this question to /jp/.

Tenhou.

>> No.3660819

For Japanese riichi mahjong tenhou is the best.

I highly recommend going to #mahjong on irc (rizon obviously). Guys there are helpful and really want to teach the game they love to anyone interested.

And for playing, tenhou is the best.
Guys from #mahjong usually play on http://tenhou.net/0/?L7447
If you want somewhere where there are always people try http://tenhou.net/0/ most people there are Japanese though.

>> No.3660831

Are there any options out there other then Tenhou? I gave it a try at one point and it was... Really very fast. It was a bit hard to keep up with what was happening in the game.

>> No.3660834

Not OP, but does anyone know where I can download a Saki-themed mahjong game? I saw screencaps from one in the past and it looked awesome.

Wow, this is pretty perfect, I'll start reading all of it over. Maybe tenhou will be easier to play in if I know how to navigate it. At least I'll be able to observe games with this guide.

This really depends on who's online at the time, you may either get help, be completely ignored, or trolled.
>>3660831
Play slow games. Check the translation of the lobby menu on arcturus to see which ones are non-fast and play there.

NO THEY ARE NOT (IRC MAHJONG CHANNEL). STOP POSTING BULLSHIT. 99% OF THE USERS DO NOT TALK ABOUT MAHJONG.

>> No.3661180

>>3661172
The later part of the post is true. But if you ask any mahjong related questions, they will answer.

Still, a mahjong channel where like 90% of the talk is about the weather in Boston or some shit gets kinda annoying after a while.

>>3661172
This guy is telling the truth.
The only mahjong related thing in the channel is the bot putting out Tenhou result and games.

I have seen more world series discussion rather mahjong discussion from the time I lurk there.

people on #mahjong are not new to the game, but we/they are not exactly what you'd call a "pro."

We/they discussed mahjong there in the past but its not interesting to talk about the same thing over and over again.
I expect something to happen again when Mudazumo airs, but right now the channel seems to be frozen.

This saki game, does it come in Non-Moonrunes?

>> No.3662407

>>3662392
Nope.
Don't think there is anything that need translated.
The dialogues are all just ero scenes. Just use imagination bro.
Search the archive, I believe some anons pointed out what each of the special or items that you can buy before does.

>> No.3662430

Guess this is the actual mahjan thread so bumping for single queue on nashi and ari red.

>> No.3662450

The fact that ##mahjong still has a bunch of people there amazes me.

>> No.3662581

Talking about mahjong is boring unless you have some interesting insights to share. "So you did this? Well, you're doing it wrong" gets old really fast. Of course it's hard to get a decent discussion going, there's really nothing worth saying, it's as pointless as discussing anime and manga. Also itt beato, osamu, speedwagon
