There's one thing I always wondered about orchestras... Do the people that plays the lame instruments like the triangle end up that way because they were late when people were choosing their positions?

The people who end up playing triangle, usually play other things as well. They are the percussionists who basically play all the miscellaneous sound effect instruments.

It's a lot more fun than practicing for hours and hours to get good on a single instrument, although of course you don't get as much fame.
