ive heard some stories of getting bad dakimakura off ebay. just check the sellers rating, that is key.

The 30 dollar ones are usually cheap chinese crap.

The major problem with the cheap ones is the colorfastness of the print. In other words as soon as you wash it the print fades all to fuck and back. Also shitty low thread-count fabric guarantees it will feel and look cheap as shit.

I've bought one from ebay and one official one. The quality isn't bad at all, it's just different. Official one is cotton and polyester, ebay one was some silky fabric. I'm happy with both.

Depends on the seller. The higher the rating a number of sales the better off you are. I've got a few pillows some were ~$120 after shipping and others were ~$30 total. I've yet to come across a cover that has been of shitty fabric or one that's had low quality print job and all of them have been fine going through the wash. There's two types of materials that are typically used though, ones 100% satin, the other is one known as "peach skin" which is a silky microfiber like material. The peach skin seems to go through the wash better but the satin is more silky smooth (but satin is also usually a bit more expensive). I usually buy from sellers that have a decent amount of higher priced covers and just wait for them to discount overstock or less popular sellers. Also if you are THAT concerned about fading or washing your waifu just find some korean owned dry cleaning shop and slip them an extra $15 bucks and they'll take extra good care if it and not talk to anyone (in case you're getting a loli).

Anyways hope this helps you out, being able to sleep with mai waifu actually helped cure the small bouts of insomnia and made my bed feel much less lonely at night. They really are quite nice.

As for washing a warm/cold with very light detergent and no fabric softener is the way to go, Hang dry. Those will usually be the best results. Also if the print is gonna fade in the wash it would also fade after a good 4 months or so of nightly use/hugging (a friend got a super cheap one that was very crappy that had this happen to him).

As far as the official ones go I do believe they use peach skin fabric or some other microfiber variant (at least the ones I've seen/felt were).

They are way too silky smooth to be the officials, the quality are pretty high overall though I've gotten 4 from that seller, the oldest being about 2 1/2 yrs old and still in pretty good shape and the newest is about 7 months old. So, I have two dakimakura that I cuddle with at night. However, one that I've always been searching for is one with Ran on it. I've searched like crazy, but I've never found a Ran dakimakura that has suited my needs, or shows her in a way I like. In particular, when the lights are off, both dakimakura feel exactly the same, no individuality among my waifu.

But since I couldn't find a Ran dakimakura, I ended up buying a normal body pillow and sewing faux fur ears on top of it. Oh my fucking lord, best idea ever. At night, when the picture doesn't matter, and touch and imagination reign supreme, I can still distinguish Ran from the other dakimakura simply by feeling her "head", and I can pretend to pat her head, snuggle and scratch behind her ear... Having your waifu in dakimakura form is much better than just using your imagination since their image will be one of the last things you see before going to sleep and it's much easier to feel like they are really there. Not to mention times when you are alone at home or in your room you can sit them on your lap and cuddle with them it's nice to be able to actually see your waifu there.

People who feel the need to hide their dakimakuras or suppress their power level within the confines of their own room aren't deserving of a waifu and are normalfag enough to actually have people who would be disturbed or even give a flying fuck about having one in the first place.

As far as dressing up a dakimakura in clothing or props I haven't really seen something quite like that yet. As far as getting a specific character dakimakura there are shops out there where if you provide a good quality picture of the character and position you want on a cover they'll make it for you custom. I have 8 different dakimakuras ATM and I'm able to tell them apart based on the feel of the fabric and the "consistency" of the actual pillow itself. the only time I really was ever confused was when I got three at once and they all felt equally smooth and all had the same type of pillow in them. However as time went on they picked up their uniqueness and just be feeling/hugging them their image instantly comes into my mind. Actually because of this I have been getting more lucid/vivid dreams because I have feel associated to an image of the character. Shits so cash. I can also talk/pet/hug/cuddle them during the day and see their smiling faces.

Naturally I can feel the difference as they are different fabric. It's not a question of good quality vs bad though, they're just different. Custom one doesn't feel any less sturdy. It's probably less likely to rip than a standard pillowcase. And honestly I don't know how you would rip it unless you purposely tried to.

When I ordered three together they all shipped in the same package but I still paid shipping/handling for each of them but I never did ask if I could get a discount on shipping for buying multiple together (since it's ebay I always just throw shipping in to the total cost since most people jack the price of shipping to make their product be closer to market value while selling the actual product at a lower price). You can't find wallscrolls with your waifu on them in poses like the one in OP, or at least decent quality ones that don't look like shit. It's actually pretty common to hand dakimakura's as wall decorations or curtains but yea if you are simply looking for a wall decoration and don't care about that wall scrolls are definitely the way to go and you can get them at cons/specialized shops legit for decent price.
