As I understand it, the reason is fifty-fifty on:
a) Aoi has an stable voice acting career (understatement of the century) so it's not like she has any real incentive to pander to male otaku anymore as she did on the past. She already established herself, she gets a constant stream of roles and her die-hard fans still follow and support her ventures. At most she releases one or two singles/MVs every once in a while.
b) Aoi being her usual weird, overly self-conciouss self believes that pass a certain age she shouldn't dress a certain way because it's kinda weird or creepy even though she can still totally pull that sort of look. She has talked about this on radio.
Wonder what she thinks of people like Yukarin.
Another example is her Eien Labyrinth music video. In interviews she talks about how recording a music video in which she plays a cat was a long-time wish of hers and she did it now because "she was starting to get too old to do that sort of thing anymore". Also making jokes about they used visual filters to make her look better.

For me 2011-2018 Aoi was the cutest/most attractive bar none and sure, I would glad if she had that look again but on the other I am grateful she keep that going for as long as she did and I respect if she wants to take a break. She keep the same meme haircut for God knows how long.

I only mentioned Komatsu because in the VOMIC Yuma Uchida voices Denji and she voices Nayuta (who's basically Makima).

Hayamin is the safe choice yet, but I'd still argue pillow seiyuu as well just because of how many WSJ roles she's been getting lately and she'd be better of as Reze.

They shouldn't go safe with Makima, just pick a VA who's done her type of character in the past and whose known to do it well.

Also I don't know how to correctly describe it. Her voice is just so high-pitched that when it reaches my ears they are like "bracing themselves for impact".

She's been around the top for two decades already, give her a rest. Even if she stopped now she would have plenty of savings for her retirement days, but there's nothing that prevents her for keeping going.
Tange Sakura actually disappeared for a decade but came back guns blazing with Rinko, so there's nothing that prevents female seiyuu from having a long stable career as long as their voice doesn't change (which isn't a problem for most of the actually good ones).

I already think Aoi is one of the best female VA of all time. I don't think that's even a hot take at this point so excluding her doesn't make a ton of sense, there is a reason why she keep getting lead roles almost every season when most female seiyuu are lucky to get just one or two through their entire career.

Aoi recorded a mini-album with instrumentation, using solely samples of her voice.
As interviews pointed out this required a pretty complicated setup of expensive microphones to record so it's pretty safe to assume it was more expensive than the usual single.
The mini-album sold pretty bad, and FlyingDog announced her "retirement" shortly after then half a year later Columbia picks her up.
There was the usual PR talk involved with nobody being honest about what actually happened. Usual showbis stuff. They framed as if Aoi had reached everything she wanted to do in music so she retired or some nonsense.

The album is pretty nice, unique and worth a listen. Wish she would be have done more tracks in that style. Yoko Taro enjoyed it and tweeted about it.

The guy is some big youtuber, and his friend (probably also a big youtuber) pranked him for his birthday by bringing on Nakahara to play his photographer, and then they surprised him with the fact that she's actually the voice actress of May Wong, his favorite Kaleido Star character, and obviously Nagisa from his other favorite anime CLANNAD.

What Nakahara gets out of this, I don't know. It was cool of her to do it, but I hope she didn't do it for free, because as far as I can tell, they certainly didn't even credit her in text of the video, nor link her socials anywhere. So, while it is a lot of exposure on a large youtube channel reaching a younger demographic, it's kind of pointless if people don't know where to find her.

I would love some anon to explain why older seiyuu are better despite having fewer roles, and most of their roles were dubbed in the west when most anons first experienced those anime. Voice acting has also become more sophisticated.
