which producers that /jp/ approves the most? there doesn't seem to be a lot of discussions around the more popular producers here except for the occasional "all deco*27 shit sounds the same" posts, powapowap is not being discussed as often as back then anymore and generally speaking, discussions around a producer and their discography is quite rare here. there are some posts, they are quite long actually about producers like whoo lately but i wont be surprised if they are all just the same 5 anon talking about him on every thread.

Definitely. You'll never know when there's a hidden gem that lies within different genres and artists if you don't do that. Still, I do see some patterns where the older fans consider someone like 40mP, KuroUsaP, HachioujiP as the GOAT while newer fans will say names like surii/Three, Teniwoha, or syudou.

>> No.36347520

Hi /jp/, I came here to ask about a vocaloid that seems to have been recently removed from youtube.
It started off with a somewhat old tape of a normal place in japan, where, I think, a woman talked caldmly about something. Then, there was a sudden scream and the song began. Besides that, the chorus was a robotic voice saying the english letters (slight pauses with the dashes, longer pauses with the spaces)
>N-A N-Y-E-A
>N-A N-Y-E-A
>N-A N-Y-E-A
>N-A N-Y-E hey hey hey
and then repeating. When I say robotic, I mean that it sounded deliberately robotic and unlike any vocaloid I know of (though, I only know the very popular ones like Miku, Luka and Kagamine Rin/Len)

I agree anon, to me the appeal of vocaloid is exactly what tricks the producer uses to work with the inherit sound of the computerized voice. If you lean in to the distinct sound you get something really fun, maybe its just me but Teto producers seem to be the best at this. Please give me 3 Vocaska songs that were released within these 2-3 years then. I'm not that anon, but I think 2008-2012 stuff is way more varied in genre compared to today's vocaloid scene.

Also, something like "recognizable style" is a two-edged sword imo, because when the producer abused it too much, it'll ended up into something like a mass-produced shits (Looking at you, Deco*27).

I think it's just because there is just less meme and character oriented songs made. A lot of producers who are active now got professional or at least really good in their niche(therefore repetitive) and few new ones strive to be like them. There really isn't a stage for amateurs doing having fun and experimenting.
Even though these are not the songs I listen to that often, I think I can see what that anon is missing and kind of wish for some resurrection in amateur scene.

Not sure what you mean about less meme/character songs. For example deco*27 has a very defined style that you also complain, but you can't deny the vampire is a meme and character song. 23.exe for example would qualify as meme with the low poly miku rapping, as is pinnochio-p every second song and kinoshita/lamaze-p/oster and other producer that focus on cute songs. Any of those would be meme songs back then.

And there is a large influx of new producers, especially due to proseka, but the algorithm gods of new will not necessarily bless those with potential for greatness or that you'll personally like, you have to search deep to find those unfortunately.

Listening to Vocaloid is a sacrifice of convenience for quality. By listening to self-published amateur songs, you are getting rid of the evil corporate middlemen of the music industry. And then, you find gems of such exceptional quality, that no one else on the planet will ever have the chance of listening to.

It also works as pleb filter. Midwits don't have the research skills to find the good Vocaloid songs.

With all this finding new songs/getting bored of vocaloid/old=soul, good=soulless talk I got curious about what methods you guys use for finding new songs. I call my method the "turbo autist brute force method" where I sample almost all the songs that were uploaded to niconico in a week's time. I do this so there is a very low chance I miss out on a song I'd like and since I have no other hobby I do on a computer I have the time to do this. Before this I used the niconico vocaloid ranking page. I also remember someone posted a site about a year ago that featured weekly top lists of less popular songs, I think it was in english and had a dark purple design, someone might be able to post it again. If I wouldn't be able to expand my playlist with new songs I might have also gotten bored of vocaloid becasue of the repetition, I think the most important part is to reduce repetition and be on the lookout for new songs with an open mind, for example don't dismiss a song because of the genre (for me it was rap, but I managed to find some, that I liked). In my experience one of the major advantages of the vocaloid scene is the abundance of new songs that are released, you are almost guaranteed to find something that you'll like. On the topic of soulfulness I can only say that, there always were and will be songs that are less sincere or have less effort put into them but opposite is also true. This topic is very subjective when you talk about the entirety of the recent or not so recent vocaloid scene, you could see the plethora of mass produced songs with flower as the vocalist, trying to get in the tailwind created by popular producers' success with her and say "woah look at all these soulless copycats", but you could also look at all the literally who producers that try to give their best regardless of how popular they might or might not become and stumble upon works that are very sincere and/or have a lot of effort put into them and think how soulful vocaloid is. I think it's not new vocaloid songs that are soulless, but trends, which were probably soulless even in the past so most of the songs created under them didn't stand the test of time unlike the other older songs which were probably regarded as soulful even back then, and as a result, are remembered more fondly today as well. In other words there will always be soulless, but also plenty of soulful, so it's dismissive to say that insert era of vocaloid is soulless. It's very late at the time of me writing this so might not make a lot of sense.

I think I found the purple website you were talking about
https://vgperson.com/vocalhighlights.php

I use VocaDB when I’m looking for something new to listen to even if it’s been uploaded long ago, the genre tags and vocal tags are a godsend in filtering what I want to listen to.

My personal challenge is to find out where korean and Chinese producers upload their work. I haven’t mastered BilliBilli, if anyone wants to feel the nostalgia of browsing NND for the first time and having no idea what you’re watching/how to browse, BilliBilli is great for that.

I don't really, and I guess that's part of the problem. In past I would go through a lot of songs while playing osu or project diva, but now I mostly follow handful of producers I know and like, and rarely try new stuff.
Another thing is that lyrics are quite important for me. They can really make or break a song for me, but the translations usually lag behind if they ever get translated.
But I think it won't hurt to play some new releases. I was already getting quite bored with non-vocaloid music I'm listening while work. >>36398928 this site looks promising, thanks for recommendation.

i listen to anything and everything with an open mind. sometimes first impressions aren't really important, so downloading absolutely everything you can, keeping it, and keep listening to it, a shining gem will present itself to you in time. it just takes patience.

i like music but listening to vocaloid is not typically about the music, nor the lyrics. i can't understand japanese very well at all. it's usually about how the vocals make me feel. i love vocaloid and like listening to well-tuned songs of various voicebanks. it's just how i like to relax. if the instrumental also has an accompanying feeling then that's what i think makes a song greater than just good.

i'll rec you one song i like with the playlist it's in and you can listen to more if you like. there's a lot of popular, old, or just plain meme shit in there too so don't go in with amazing expectations

So either that other anon said something really dumb without thinking, or that other anon is willing to throw Jin and Kemu under the bus for the sake of vocaloid purity. I unironically enjoyed the Jinsei Reset Button LN.

And speaking of saying something dumb without thinking. I'm guilty of it too. Here are some realtively recent character songs from some relatively unknown artists that I love.

I also search by the brute force method, which is the only method connoisseurs use. I search on Youtube and I keep a list of keywords in notepad. The most important keyword is -"カバー" to eliminate covers.

Once per week, I search for the keywords Vocaloid, ボカロ, SynthV, UTAU, CEVIO, Neutrino, and I sort by relevance. The reason I search by relevance is that it catches related search keywords, even if they are not included in the title. If you search by release date, then the search engine is much stricter and you don't find as many songs.

Then, I search for the name of every Vocaloid character in Japanese and I sort by views. I search them in order that I like them the best and I never reach the bottom of the list. When I'm near the end of my search activity, I search for Miku. She has too many songs and I can't listen to all of them unfortunately, so I search her songs last.

If I'm in good shape, I scrub VocaDB for songs that I couldn't catch with my keyword list. Producers who have the horrible habit of not writing the name of their Vocaloid in the title are near impossible to find.

>> No.36404346

>>36404213
Also, before I listen to any song, I determine if it's original or not from the title or the description. If I'm not 100% sure that the song is original, I don't listen to it. I don't translate the entire text, so if I don't recognize keywords such as 曲 or 音 that establish authorship, I skip the song.

I think that every NEET should develop an artistic skill for their personal development and well-being. There are 5 artistic skills that are related to Vocaloid: music production, singing, dancing, painting/drawing, and MMD animation. Which skill do you practice, anon? And do you study Japanese?

>> No.36404618

That's probably it. I also find VocaDB useful when I'm looking for songs in a specific genre, the tag system is very good. I got into vocaloid ~2 years ago and dove right into the recent "underground" scene, as a result I listened to very few old songs, but VocaDB is very useful in discovering older works along the way as well.

>>36400133
If you are the anon that recommended Trippers from the same artist last thread, then I have to thank you because I liked it quite a lot. I have the same view as you described it in the first paragraph of your post. I might not instantly like a song for the first time, but if I see that it has some potential I add it to my list and if I listen to it at an other time I might come to like it. I also have a similar stance to yours on what makes a song greater than just good, for me the instrumentals are a little bit important than vocals and good tuning is what elevates a song to a greater status.

>>36403563
I don't use youtube for vocaloid discovery, but I imagine it's quite hard to get the algorithm to recommend you related stuff, if I go by my previous youtube experiences. It really is nice to see a producer grow from a nobody to someone popular. I still remember when anon posted Stridor by sohbana at 20 views and thinking that there is no way there are producers that are this good and have so little recognition and look at where they are now with their new songs. I think that was the point I decided that I want to find hidden gems like this and started digging around on niconico.

>>36404213
I was thinking about migrating to youtube, but what you described is a little bit more tiresome compared to what I do on nico. I just go under the vocaloid tag which pretty much has everything you described and list by upload date, the only thing I don't listen to are utaite who tag their cover as vocaloid. Utau covers and covers of songs with other voicebanks or even covers of songs that are not vocaloid originally are fair game since I could miss out on great pieces (such as these https://youtu.be/9L-72G_M1L0 , https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1j44y11737/ bilibili because it got deleted). This way I don't think I miss out on more than the occasional 1 or 2 songs that aren't tagged at all. Even the producers who don't put vocaloid names in the title do the bare minimum of tagging their songs as vocaloid.

kek no, you're missing the point here. If you observe it carefully, those 3 years barely filled 1 page of search page. If you go further to 2008-2011 you'll find just one year of it will give you more results. And that's only from properly tagged ones. Those who aren't properly tagged like these, to name a few from cluttered my list:

https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6357126
I'd struggle to search it back then but at least you can find them every once in a while. What I wanted to say here is, niche genres are way more easier to find back then even without the tags.

anon you literally moved the goalpost, you told me to find 3 songs from the past 3 years and there was way more than 3, it took me literally 30 seconds to search and prove you wrong of course im gonna find tagged videos.
the reason it was easier to find back then without tags is because the sheer amount of songs was much lower anon, it's not that complicated, you can literally find anything nowadays from normal vocal rock to experimental traditional african drums.
Deco has treaded the line of trend setter while staying with popular genres since the beginning, people have copied his songs and not the opposite so i dont know what this revisionism is.
he was never an experimental producer, he always played it safe and traditional but made sure to do it in the highest quality he could, what happened is that you got used to his stuff, not that he got worse.

Also a lot of people dont seem to understand how it is to keep making art in the same medium for more than a decade while still managing to stay somewhat fresh, consistent and relevant, this is why many producers move on to other sings like singing their own songs.
Deco and pinnochio are BASED for managing to do this for this long, and they did that mainly by keeping their love for miku as strong as it was back then.

Argumentation works by looking at reality, the fact that the number of songs coming out now is much higher than before is a fact, same for genre representations, you dismiss factually wrong statements thats how it works.

is it fine to ask for help here? I've been searching for a song that I've listened to a long time ago for the past 2 days with no results, i dont remember the melody nor the producer but i do remember three things
1. the MV is in black and white with illustrator that looks rough and kind of childish
2. miku sounds like she's about to cry, so i assume it's miku dark
3. the lyrics is about the desire to grow up, so the pain might go away.
it was a pretty personal song for me and i even swore that i wouldn't stop listening to it, now after all these years it depressed me that i broke my own promise and i don't even remember the existence of the song anymore until very recently.

it's not this one but thanks for introducing me to nashimotop! listening to some of his releases right now and i love what i listened to so far, it seems like he's really popular, I'm not sure how i missed him back when vocaloid was still all the rage.
>>36461838
it's been a really long time so I'm sorry if my description is not accurate or just straight up wrong. I think the first half of the MV was just the lyrics of the song on a greyish background and its not until later part of the song that it shows its illustration, the illustration itself looks rough, showing a girl and some things around her that are quite random. I'm not sure about this, i might've mixed this with something else but i think it kinda looks like tkmiz art, but without the blob character design.
I'm not sure if it's popular or not by today standard but it's not niche by any means, it was popular enough to not only have 1k views but not popular enough for everybody in the community to be aware of its existence if that makes any sense? i think it only has hundreds thousands of views.
and it's not that old, I discovered it around 2015 but the song have been out for quite awhile when i discovered it, so I'd say the release window might be around 2013-2015. I'm sorry that i can't provide a lot of details, my memory of it is pretty vague.

i just listened to his entire discography and it ends up being one of my favorites as well, it might be influenced by recency bias but everything about it just feels right, the album arts are gorgeously drawn and evokes a mysterious, moody yet curious feeling (the artist deleted their pixiv and locked their twitter sadly) a stark contrast to the musics themselves that feels moody yet familiar and grounded thanks to its instrumentation and to some extent, his miku tuning. have to say that some songs in the album blended too much with the others and doesn't stand out as their own but listening to them as a whole album was a great experience. before light is my favorite of the three as a whole, but in the rain have more songs that "stands out".
>>36473632
tried searching the same term and just like the other anon i got romeo and cinderella as well, but that's quite a way to find a song! my method was quite complicated and well in the end i got nothing. one thing that I've realized recently is that the scene is smaller than i thought especially in the more "niche" ones, like there's a big chance that a post rock producer would also know other post rock producer, so i searched for producers that i think have similar style to what i remembered of morning haze on twitter, look at their followings list, filter out the producers from everyone else and start listening to every producers that have a youtube account. funnily enough keeno was in my search list as well but his YouTube channel only have an upload and it doesn't sound like what i remembered so i skipped to other producers lol, i don't have all the time in this world so i couldn't listen to everyone entire discography. once again, thank you so much for everything!
