Because plot. Shonen are a fucking joke, nobody seriously watches them. Even then, though, they have more plot than comics. Also nobody ever dies and all suspense is gone. OH LOOK WOLVERINE CAN FLY THROUGH THE SUN NOW AND SURVIVE.

Maybe if there was story progression we might like it. Watchmen or Avatar, for instance. We specifically hate the same rehashed DC and Marvel shit that never changes, so stop trolling and go back to /cm/ or whatever your board is.

It's been a while, but I remember reading through my dad's collection of Spiderman, Batman and X-Men comics as a kid. Also all other kinds of comics, Inspector Canardo, Milo Manara's stuff, Sandman, Hellblazer, Corto Maltese... I was exposed to that stuff ages before anime and manga, and I still like it.

That exact kind of sentiment is what has created quite a number of abortions that the publishers thought the market wanted. Just slapping sight gags and big eyes doesn't make it right.

If what you mean is a shift in the storytelling and character design that we seem to be stuck in, then it is already been done. Not the big two, but from the smaller labels. Walking dead is pretty popular and in black and white, something inconceivable a decade ago. Stories that don't feature capes and spandex do pretty well, and even the cape comics find the spot from time to time to actually tell poignant stories using the wealth of character story present.

What I'm saying is that both mediums allow for a lot of growth and diversity, and that we're getting there. And not by getting a dA kid artistic authority, but by slowly allowing for a healthy osmosis instead of superficial copying.

At this point, I point out at the Galacta short and Mini Marvels as getting it right. Plus Nihei's Snikt! as an example from Japan of getting the western style right.
Plenty to learn from both sides.

I love Western comics. It is actually the reason I started drawing and moved into Japanese anime/manga.

I like Western cartoons. Hey! Arnold is one of my favorites.

The hate I have is not for the cartoons themselves, but anybody over the age of 12 who still cares about that shit. I grew out of Spiderman the same way I grew out of DBZ. Mindless violence appealed to my immature adolescent brain but I have moved on to more...mature things.
