Been learning for about 3 months. I'd estimate my vocabulary (defined as words that I can recognize) to be around 2500 words. Been doing 2 hours of anki and grammar study and about 2-4 hours of reading and watching stuff in Japanese a day.

Anyways, the most inportant thing one can do, is to try to think in whatever language. Yes, there will he gaps, yes, its painful, but it forces your brain to make connections and truly think about things instead of just repeating them.
We are naturally meant to learn languages, take advantage of that.
Also, the objective is too be able to naturally decrypt and encrypt thoughts into a given language, even though I am a native level english speaker now, with a sorta extensive vocab, I can't, say, play scrabble in english.
Point being, perfect memorizatuin of inane stuff isn't necessary, what is necessary is for the subconscious to learn to use words, eh, subconsciously.
