The problem is the fact that e-celeb threads don't belong here. They never have and it has been a vapid complaint across the site for years that e-celebs need to be contained to a single board. That was supposed to be /vt/, but it would appear that someone thinks it'll be funny to let spam run rampant to "annoy" someone, when all it does is inconvenience everyone else.
They really think the fight is about owning the board when the problem is that they keep letting trash fill the catalog.

There's been more stupid shit since then. The guy doing Custom made the source code more readable, and then another guy made a mod for Custom called Custom-G that removes pissing and provides translations for all untranslated text.
Then the guy who was doing Custom left. The Custom-G guy recently released a tool that makes maintaining mods easier, but there's still apparently nobody willing to take over Custom, and the Custom-G guy takes forever to get anything done, so there hasn't been a new version in a long time.

Do you mean to the Elona+ custom (as opposed to another variant's custom)? Switching back and forth should be supported as long as you never go backwards in version numbers. However, localized strings that were changed by custom but are also saved into save data will not update, and there might be a few hard coded branches on those strings since the piss dog doesn't seem to know that its very bad practice. I don't think anything major, but forbidden meat might act a little weird once or twice.

Yes, there are some features where the behavior changes based on the localized text that got stored in your save game. I did a quick check and it seems like its only done on gender and party room checks. If there was some kind of localization changes to party rooms and you swapped versions while inside one, dancing might not function properly until you exit and start another quest of the same type. Gender stuff probably only effects the non-blessed and cursed meat ones and can be fixed by using forbidden meats of various types until it sorts itself out. Its possible that custom did not change these texts, which would mean there would be no problem at all.

I didn't configure or install anything on that list. Pretty sure WINE is just handling it all. All I had to do to get Elona working was set it to run in 64 and it worked without any configuration. I don't run it through Proton GE or through the Steam Client, just straight from the .EXE file.

Fire is better because it causes wince for bonus damage, and you'll eventually want to cast fireball at water enemies when you get fire/ice combines. Don't bother with electric for damage it's a very distant 3-5th place even before combines enchants, it's only for a chance to paralyze.

As far as I know, anything in *act_attackSub is per-weapon. So stamina/mp absorption, ragnarok, time stop, dragon/god/undead-bane, elemental damage, and invokes.

Most of the other more recent forks are still based on either + or omake. MMA for instance is a different omake branch from oomsest, though overtime a lot of ideas from other branches get mixed together. NC recently added the sub-god system for example.

There's also tiny proof of concept stuff that only lasted a version or so. Plus requires 40 MB or so of graphics and music and such, and those aren't included with Custom. Custom additionally requires various text files (item descriptions, monster names, etc.), and Custom-G only includes text files that it modifies.
Delete the Plus EXE, and Custom will still run. That is working independently.

Claymore is pretty good though, it has nice generic special stats and it gets really good once you get to artifact fusion, as it is the lowest limit special sword in the game (aside from Ragnarok, but only masochists and nihilists use Ragnarok)

Unrelated autism, but one thing i like in Omake Overhaul is that with certain feats you can dual wield heavier weapons without a penalty. I always found it weird such hard caps (together with equip weight) exist in a game where the entire point is to grind until you become a gigachad demigod. Like sure, you can carry an entire army's worth of equipment and not even be burdened, but equipment weigning over 35s and it's suddenly "heavy".

Custom is Plus, but with an improved translation and optional gameplay tweaks added. Custom-G is Custom, but with various changes made (generally reverting things done by Ano) and also more tweaks and translation. Custom-G's dev is still around, but maintaining Custom is a lot more work than maintaining Custom-G and he hasn't had enough free time to release a new version of Custom since 1.90.
If you want to make a new release based on Custom-G, it would be a new variant like Custom-GFU was. Or you could take over Custom and do whatever you want I guess, since nobody else ever stepped up.

Yes, the intention was for it to be the new release of Custom/G/whatever that nobody else has created yet. To reduce the maintenance burden I split the source into a file structure close to Noa's original code and put it under version control. Also, thanks to a tool I wrote it should hopefully be easier for future maintainers to get a readable diff of the source code between Plus versions.

I still have to work on the translations, which will take a while because an entire new arc of the main quest was added, but I recently finished merging the 2.05 changes (preliminarily).

I've seen plenty of people who started playing with current plus and they never complained about thirst. The mechanic's been through so many reworks at this point.
Anti-savescumming is definitely something I want just because the compulsion to do it is actually a problem for me.

4) Any other pets I should be on the lookout for that will be worth it into end game?
5) Are monster balls/Knockout/Kokou the best way to get pets? Usually when I run across something I want my other pets 1 shot it before I can send them to town.

I do know some amount of Japanese myself, but it's probably not enough for a good quality translation. Still, whatever I can do might be better than machine translation, but I'm unfamiliar with the state of the art. If I can figure out a way to get the strings extracted and easily replaced I think that might help if commissioning is a viable strategy. There is some cutscene data that's already well-isolated so maybe that's a good starting point.

You're ending your program with a ranged attack and then a melee attack? No move command anywhere in there? It sounds impossible. I'm guessing the problem is with your movement logic.
My advice would be to rewrite your program so that it checks if enemies are in attack range first, attacks if they are, and then moves closer if they aren't. Doing movement as the last step is more reliable in my experience.

Elona Mobile is an unofficial mobile remake of Elona, made by a Hong Kong developer, but with permission from Noa. I don't think many people here play it. I've heard that its okay, but has some invasive mobile features.

What the hell is this quest anyway? I'm not sure if it's just translations that are missing, but nothing is getting done, the wiki description is no less cryptic than the in-game quest and robot dude is angry at me.

Crops, shops resets and dungeon respawns i think are real time.

Shops reset 3 times per day +3 with ads and dungeons you can use opatos statue to reset it, which most people don't even need to because they don't clear all 20 available dungeons they get per day.

Don't worry, you'll get better fast.
Remember, as far as training goes, murdering stuff is the least efficient method. The best methods to get swole early game are gardening (harvest time quests, go to Yowin (a town south of Vernis) to get lots of them) and cooking (learn skill and invest in it early, food gives you a fuckton of exp). Hunting missions are still useful for platinum and you'll need a fuckton of platinum.

Martial characters are good. Claws/tonfas (look up small medals on the wiki and get Shield Tonfa from Garok's asap) will carry you through the early game, and once you got enough extra attack chance you can remove everything from your hands and punch up to 8 times per round. On higher MA levels hands become amazingly brutal weapons with ridiculous damage die and 50% armor pierce, plus aforementioned 8 attacks per round and fun special actions to go with them.

You were actually able to do hunting quests? That's honestly impressive, they're normally too hard early on.
Also, you should've stayed away from that town for a week or so, one of the townspeople must have something equipped that has the "attracts monsters" curse on it.

also, how good are living weapons? any good way to build them up? was planning martial artist, but found an adamantium living drill and thinking of riding with that now.

Not really. The Thieves Guild has a guy who sells disguise kits, which will keep guards from killing you. If you can't buy those and you don't have the Disguise spell, you'll need to stay in Derphy and do enough sidequests that you won't be killed on sight.

Pretty darn good. That's probably the best weapon you'll be able to get for some time. Seriously lucky break there.

Elemental damage, hands down. The available damage type changes every so often, and also when you enhance it. Magic damage is an excellent choice, since enemies have low resistance to it, but there are damage multiplication gimmicks you can do with Fire or Ice that have better DPS.

You can buy karma in noyel, wish for repentence, or just give corruption potions to pael's mom.

Later, once you have lots of ressurection, you can kill/resurrect bards/kids/etc for free karma.

yeah only got like 800k, though i have got a decent number of cure corruption potions from blackjack. ive given like 4 to the woman with aids and still not getting karma.

Chaos damage is also an option if you want to make regular mobs helpless with a good hit or two or have an AoE spact and switch to a better DPS weapon for bosses. Or give it to a pet so they can paralyze/sleep/blind/confuse mobs for you.

If you're using Custom+G or Custom+GX posted above, the adventure seminar is actually translated and are quite useful. It's in the blocky building south of Vernis (the first town near your cave). If you talk to the weird chest with a smiling face after asking all questions to the teacher you'll get some goodies.

Kind of slow. I had to take a break because of burnout from working on it too much and unrelated personal issues. Releasing Custom-GX was a relatively low-stress thing I did in the meantime (to me it was mostly just mechanically pasting in a bunch of code into Custom-G, and at least Elona+ is a thing that is both stable and playable right now). I'm pretty much the only person who's worked on OpenNefia so far in a significant capacity, although there were a few people who expressed interest in contributing in some way or another, even if it's not coding specifically. If someone was wanting to know about a specific mod idea I could probably either teach them how to create it by providing a code example or explain how I would attempt to implement it if the engine was more polished in some vague future.

At the time there were a couple of design issues and bugs I was needing to work out, mostly related to serialization, but I'm easily distracted by trying to be too perfect. Maybe an imperfect release with some amount of bugs or other issues would be better since it means that people would at least be able to playtest. However, there are still some game-breaking issues that occur when trying to play the game normally, and the nature of fixing those issues while preserving existing saves is different than the HSP version because there's so much more state that gets saved. If I'm just developing alone I can easily fix the bug and throw away the test save I was using since it doesn't carry much sentimental value, but if the issue becomes having to fix everyone else's existing saves also, that means having to e.g. develop a save migration/updating feature, coordinate with everyone to make sure that the proposed fix doesn't make the existing problem even worse, etc. That kind of thing seems pretty stressful and admittedly makes me hesitant to go all in and start maintaining an official release of ON right now. Moreover, I'm not sure that having all the new modding features will offset the disappointment of having a buggy and unfinishable rewrite of vanilla Elona with no save compatibility between versions yet.

Also, OpenNefia is something I do solely dependent on how motivated I am since I treat it as a hobby, so I don't think I can provide a guaranteed release date at the moment. The eventual first release would still be alpha-quality also.

It essentially boils down to the difference between just having a hobby and feeling as if you have an obligation not to disappoint other people, and wondering if the tradeoff is worth it.

But I might be assuming too much about what others would think if I was going to try to publicize OpenNefia more often, so I'd be open to other people's thoughts.
