Caught me by surprise since he hasn't released an album in about 6 years, and Hirasawa is approaching 70. Wonder if he'll do a tour for it once restrictions are lifted on such things.

Also interesting was that it was released directly to bandcamp, though only two tracks are available for free playback:

My overall view of it is that it is pretty similar in style to his last album, "The Man Climbing the Hologram," though most of the songs toned down in intensity and with some callback to his works in the 2000s. And unlike that album, which had a good mix of bangers and mediocre songs, the only one here which stands out to me at the moment would be "記憶のBEACON". It's not like the other tracks are hard to sit through or anything, but they don't feel as experimental or intense as his former works.

It could be posted on both boards.
If you seriously think this isn't topical here, I'd genuinely want to hear how you don't consider Susumu Hirasawa to be highly influential in Otaku Culture in particular.

I like Hirasawa's early solo works the most, so this is a welcome callback

Yeah, "Water in Time and Space" and "The Ghost in Science" would be my absolute favorites, though basically all of his solo work following OG P-Model is anywhere from good to great.

I actually gave a listen to P-Model's earliest stuff a few days ago, and was really surprised to find their original stuff was basically the Japanese equivalent of DEVO. Given that Hirasawa had previously been performing prog rock a la King Crimson, it seemed like a really abrupt shift, and honestly probably my least favorite of the stuff he's done. I did like this Pink Floyd cover though:

My enduring favorite album of his is still Kyuusai no Gihou, though I have many individual favorites scattered around several albums.

I liked the couple of sample tracks, can't wait to hear the rest of the album later
