Here's the thing. I'm going to be finishing up highschool pretty soon, and I want to go to college in Japan. Problem is, I am of the lower middle-class, and can't even really afford the standard 10k a year most places I've found charge. My parents don't want to contribute money for me to go to school, and especially don't want me to go to Japan. So what I need is a cheap university(If possible in or near Tokyo), an idea of working part time, and how much I could make working there, and any way that would make it possible for me to go to school in Japan.

tl;dr Information help a poor white kid go to college in Japan.

Get into a college where you are. Get into learning japanese. Get into a spend a year in japan program with a host family and so on.

Meanwhile work where you are until you've saved up enough money or get loans.

Also be smart. If you aren't smart enough to be going into college with at least a few scholarships, you don't belong in Japan.

Urban Dictionary:

Otaku:
Otaku is the honorific word of Taku (home).

Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc)

Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer).

In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru". If you think about it, it's not really good to be called a guru if it means you are a total loser who can't socialize with other people except through the Internet.

Other Japanese words which have been confused by Westerners also include but not limited to: Anime, Manga, etc

Weeaboo:
Someone who is obsessed with Japan/Japanese Culture/Anime, etc. and attempts to act as if they were Japanese, even though they're far from it. They use Japanese words but usually end up pronouncing them wrong and sounding like total assholes. You can find alot of these faggots clogging up the forums of Gaia Online, hanging out in the international aisle of the supermarket, or crowding the manga section of your local bookstore. Synonym of wapanese.

The difference is I don't claim to be Japanese. Weeaboos go on about how Japanese they are, but I am completely aware of the fact that I am not Japanese, and I know how Gaijin are treated in Japan. I don't have false expectations of being accepted and loved by everyone because I'm white, infact, I expect the exact opposite. Weeaboos use Lucky Star's Patricia Martin as a model of how Americans are treated in Japan, which couldn't be FURTHER from the truth. Frankly, I don't even see the attraction. As a gaijin mangaka, you'll inevitably face great workloads, sharp deadlines, financial hardship, to say nothing of facing racism and social dysfunction (let's face it, the Japanese are a lock-step, xenophobic people).
If you like drawing anime, draw anime, you don't need to make your life complicated by making a career out of it.

I know this, but still, drawing feet, and then drawing feet inside shoes, boots, etc. is a different story all together. When I draw body parts, I start of with block like polygons, and then work in the detail. The head always comes first, and I start with a circle(most people I've seen draw don't do this, causing the hair to either be too small, or too big). Basically, you draw the character bald before adding hair.

I don't know, brah. Just by studying and thinking constantly about an appendage, it can become a lot easier to draw one, even if you haven't really practiced. But as a rule, yes, the only way any artist is going to get good is by drawing vomit after vomit, shit after shit, then you'll get mediocre after mediocre, decent after decent; then someday awesome after awesome. my terrible shit unrelated.

What I hate are people who think that all there is to art is perfect anatomy and OMG PHOTOREALISTIC SHADAN. I can see where they're coming from, not liking it, but they act like if you learn the technical skills you'll suddenly be a great artist. It ain't that way.

You're right. It's not all about technical skills. Let's ignore for a second the fact that the OP lacks that.

Art also takes creativity, originality, perseverance, experience, vision, and an ability to transfer images in your head or from your eyes to the paper.

There would be artists everywhere if technical skill was all it took.

You can easily print up a book in Japan. They have businesses that allow you to self-publish your work. That's how Circles make their Doujinshi. They have publishers print up a certain number of copies, and then those are delivered to Comiket. After paying to print them up, they make up for the loss with profits, if they sell enough. Famous Circles can easily have 12 artists produce 2 pages each, make a 24 page book, with about 3000 copies and sell them at ¥1000 a piece, and not have to do hardly any work at all. After dividing the profit, it doesn't come out to much if you sell out, but if it were 1artist, imagine what their profit would be.

to be honest, I'm not interested in becoming a mangaka, I only pursue it as a hobby, and only very transiently at that. At it's core, anime is just a stylized version of realism. If you get good at drawing realistic, non-animu figures, practice anatomy, do the whole 45-second-anatomy sketch thing, you can become good at anime style, you just take realism and apply the stylization to it. What it really takes is motivation, which I aint got nor really care to have.

Oh man, I knew a girl just like this back in university. Pretty cute blonde freshman, but man she was weeaboo as fuck and always talked about going to Japan and becoming a mangaka. She even had pretty good grades and seemed smart enough about most things.

This is for everyone who is not OP.

My best advice would be to go to Japan for two years or so and attend language school after graduating high school. All your would be learning is Pajanese. If you are smart it would take even less time. Then you need to take the JLPT (1kyuu or 2kyuu) or that other lame test. If you pass it you will probably be able to attend a pajanese university as an international student. It is apparently much easier to get in than as a normal student (e.g. the test is much easier because you are a dumb american). I believe that a lot of the students doing this will be from asia.

This route is possible and I know people doing it. You would probably be able to do it too if you weren't a weaboo fag.

>> No.3588051

I'd be more worried about passing admissions test. You'd better prepare for the jlpt and maybe take a gap-year for working up the language. A lot of schools have special intensive Japanese programs just for that purpose, so you might want to try getting in one of those first (they're cheaper, mine is 230,000 a semester).

On a student visa you can work I think somewhere between 15 and 20 hours a week if you do the paperwork. Teaching/tutoring English probably pays the best at ~2000 yen an hour, so you should be able to pay most of your living expenses that way.

All in all, so long as the exchange rate remains favourable (or at least not too bad) it's much cheaper than going to school in the US.

And then there's scholarships too.
