Finished the main story of Yonagi and the epilogue.
Overall the game is a massive disappointment. The three cases are inoffensively mediocre with some sporadic good ideas and character interactions, but they fail to create any emotional resonance. Overall this could be forgivable if the main story manages the connect the cases and provide a satisfying conclusion. The problem is that....

Case-0 is by far the worst thing I’ve ever read in Japanese. It completely sidelines the interesting party of Yonagi's main storyline and instead drowns the player in waves of shitty world building, exposition dumps and dull character drama. The exposition dumps are the worst problem. None of the pseudo-science shit is interesting to read and it doesn't really matter anyway in the grand scheme of things. Azuma is the worst character I’ve ever seen. The moment he opens his mouth you already know he's either going to turn into a villain or is going to be a writer self-insert. The part where the mc is still a child is manageable (although it’s cliché as fuck), but when he turns into an adult and the science dumps get ramped up, the game loses all of its sympathy. I fucking hated reading the latter half of Case-0. Every time a big change of the status quo happens, it becomes worse than before. First you get shitty info dumps and discussion about some fictional system that drags on and on. WHY THE FUCK does nobody even bother asking why Yonagi has super powers. Wouldn’t that be the first thing you research? Then you get probably the dullest way to link case-0 with the start of the game. This part is so awful since they barely bother explaining why the entire project is a good idea in the first place, instead they just focus on justifying retarded shit like why you switched dreams or why the facility smelled like trees. This is a common problem with case-0, but here it’s the most obvious. Then you get the climax which the game is teasing at the entire time. But the reunion with Yonagi is just as anticlimactic as every other emotional scene in the game. Afterwards by far the worst part of the game start. A retired HE DIDNT DO ANYTHING wrong flashback sequence redeeming the worst and most annoying character in the game FILLED with exposition. This exposition is even worse than first information dump since it basically says that everything up until now wasn't even true in the first place. I have NO idea how anybody who reads up this point of the game even cares about this fucking guy in the first place nor why the writer wanted to redeem him. None of the events afterwards could save the game from that point but it still overstays it welcome by dumping muh feel good epilogues on the player. More than half off the ero scenes are locked behind this part making it a drag to read. The soundtrack also sucked ass (not a single good song in the entire ost) and the writer is a fucking hack who couldn’t even write one good emotional scene. I'll never play a game by Laplacian or this fucking hack of a writer ever again. Sumomo was pretty cute though, pic related is the best line of the game (and no it’s not the retarded cringe title drop).

Also during the final Eroscenes i compared the prose to a couple of other Asakawa Yuu eroscenes. The Yonagi scenes get blown the fuck out by the Mari ero scenes from wa2. The writing is just SO much better it's not even funny. Made me feel like i wasted my entire summer vaction reading the supposed best game of 2020, while Marco to ginga ryuu managed to achieve much more than Yonagi in 1/5's of the time.

Overall I don't think I 'missed' anything but I'm interested to hear what you think about it. IMO the game would be better off if it just focused on connecting the cases with a emotional driven main story line ("for example a focus on the Kaito can remember everything / yonagi will forget everything angle') instead of muh psuedo-science, muh fujodoctor and muh "let's do an ever 17 like twist but instead just explain everything to the player in the dullest way possible" shit.

>>35729697
Because I expected case 0 to 'redeem' the game from mediocrity. Instead it was a mess of dull drama which focusses too much on explaining inconsequent shit while sidelining everything that could make the game great. It was also too far into the game to drop it and I wanted to clear the game over my summer break which 'forced' me to play through something I didn't enjoy, so there is definitely a subjective angle to it.

>>35729731
>By going into it expecting to hate it
Where did you get this fanfiction from? When I started the game made a cheeky shitpost about how the UI sucks ( which I still agree with, furigana is unreadable at a distance and there is too much wasted space), but for the rest I played it because the case system looked interesting and I like Asakawa Yuu. I'm usually a sucker for love stories, but everything in Yonagi failed to resonate with me. I might be a retarded ESL, but if anything I don’t play Japanese porn games ironically.

>>35729810
Obviously this is really subjective, but for me there wasn’t a single memorable song in the entire soundtrack, which might also be caused because of the lack of memorable moments in the game. There are also a couple of really annoying songs that constantly play during case 0. Also I like to play piano as a hobby, so if I can't find even one song that I’m interested in playing in the entire soundtrack I can't honestly say that the soundtrack was good. This is especially true if the soundtrack so heavily relies on piano music.

>> No.35730189

>>35730056
Oh I can see where you come from then. I feel like if the game really doesn't resonate with you it can just fall apart very easily, and if you felt forced to finish it it only adds to it. It's a shame you didn't enjoy it though. I loved all the cases and their subtext to bit, even if there really wasn't any groundbreaking climax in all of them, because they're supposed to feel truncated by design. I felt all of them spoke of a facet of Kaito and Yonagi that made it click perfectly in case 0. As you say, Ono seems a little eager to over explain the scifi elements of the setting, but it didn't really subtract from my experience. Overall it felt like a very real story to me, like it came from a honest place and tried to depict the characters in a very human way. I think that's what I like the most about Ono's writing. How honest his characters feel, even when they're irredeemable pieces of trash like Arishima, Shuho and Azuma. I'm sorry if this reads a little disjointed, I'm trying not to think too hard.

>I felt all of them spoke of a facet of Kaito and Yonagi that made it click perfectly in case 0.

If case-0 fully focused on this aspect and gave the reader more room to speculate about how the cases are connected to each other and if the 3 cases themselves had a better conclusion, I would have happily called Yonagi a kamige. The main problem with case 0 is that the story line of case 0 itself overtakes the most interesting ‘gimmick’ of the game. The most blatant example is the part at the very end where Kaito enters Yonagi's world and meets the three heroines again. It's the best scene in the case for me but it gets completely ruined because for some reason the writer thought it was a good idea to have an autistic redemption scene of an unlikable villain placed right after it. Kaito just hopping out and back into the dream world just to have this scene made it feel so stupid and just ruins the flow. Like every time something good happens it just gets ruined by the next scene being garbage.

I actually liked that scene since it gave some closure to the Asuma thing. Maybe I was just able to appreciate him a bit more and that's why the time to focus on him didn't bother me, but I see how it can be mood killing. As for the cases, considering how Yonagi intended them to be, they make sense, but I can see how they'd feel a little half-baked reading them as standalone stories. It does feel like it case 0 tries to juggle things that some readers might not appreciate.

>What exactly are the differences?
You could probably write a novel on that. There's a lot of things that are different. Of course, the H-scenes are removed and you get dolphins and dragons instead but it's far beyond just that. I'll try to categorize them.

1. Grammar/typo fixes and things like that. These are actually the good changes. It's not like the original F/SN is full of errors or anything but considering the size it's not surprising there's a few mistakes. Things like 馴れる being used when instead 慣れる should be used were fixed and so on. Funfact: the original F/SN strangely uses 煎れる in a lot of spots which I think is a weird variant you're only supposed to use for very specific types of tea and/or brewing styles. It was corrected to 淹れる in Realta Nua.

2. Randomly commented lines. In the Realta Nua script, there are a few lines that just got commented out for whatever reason and it's not like they were graphic or anything. For example, the infamous line about Shirou not liking alarm clocks is commented in Realta Nua. Some other lines that were commented out seemed to mostly have to do with some narration and whatnot. Like it would be a descriptive sentence describing how a person talked and things of that nature. Perhaps Nasu wanted the visual/voice aspect of Realta Nua to convey those things instead? Imo, it seems kind of silly since F/SN is constant walls of text and descriptions anyway so randomly removing a few here and there doesn't really change anything but w/e I guess.

3. Random line rewrites. This is the attempt to improve the prose I suppose. Sometimes lines were just randomly changed/reworded just because. Personally, I thought this was a mixed bag going through it. Sometimes I liked the original one more. Other times I liked the changed version.

4. Removal of graphic/sexual language. That's the more obvious change. For instance this Illya line >>35737606 in Realta Nua is changed to something like "殺すぞ" which is much tamer. There's a lot of times in the RN script where the text weirdly avoids saying anything too explicit (like losing limbs, crushing literal hearts, and so on). Heaven's Feel is, of course, the biggest victim of this. There's still the good, old wormpit, but the worm rape isn't explicitly said or anything. It's just more implied. Shinji himself gets basically totally rewritten and is considerably "nicer" in RN. Well obviously he's still abusive, but the Sakura rape is retconned among other things. He uses a lot of language like 逆らう and 躾 in the original script which is swapped for tamer things. And of course, no talk about sex because that's not good. Even えっち gets removed a few times. I guess that's too intense for 15 year olds.

Let's just say, their battles tend to suck ass, and their sometimes quite interesting settings get wasted. Too much love for status quo as well. (especially gensou is bad in all of those)
Shinigami no Testament has also the additional issue of having a really crappy main heroine, I just couldn't stand at all.

>Are you liking it?
I'm not the Anon that posted the screenshot, and I finished it a long time ago, but yes, it was one of the best VNs I read in a while. Haven't played anything else from 3rdEye yet so I can't compare it, unfortunately, but I thought the game held up well on pretty much all fronts. The pacing was probably the biggest flaw; plot developments are a bit clumped together sometimes. Some of the fights drag on for a little too long for my taste as well, but IIRC each one has some sort of twist to it so it felt rewarding in the end. I liked every single one of the main heroines even after finishing their routes, which is rather rare for a VN. Not sure why the other Anon disliked the main one. Narumi also deserves special mention despite being a side character. And the routes had their own conflict and were enjoyable to read even if they weren't related to the main story, so it never got boring. The overall story was engaging too and I think the conclusion was satisfying and managed to tie up most loose ends. Since you like the other works by this brand I reckon you'd enjoy this one too; I'd recommend it but I suppose I can't really vouch for it having not read anything else by them myself.

The writing style is actually easy to understand, once you have knowledge on how to read full winged subordinated phrases. The colloquialisms are used only at the dialogue, somewhat scarce, more difficult to understand but swift. The narration has a very neat style and you might get to appreciate its lyricism. Definitely not something I'd recommend during the first few years of Japanese language study... unless you take it as exercises and read a scene every week, for example.
The main actual problems for its reading comprehension will be
1. vocabulary, for example all the ship and sea words that you've probably never before read or studied. Marine is also a master of the words and he thinks about every kanji to best use. It doesn't fall into purple prose nor kanji trolling, but it's an extra difficulty.
2. cultural references, some of them very/extremely obscure but you have glossary references for that. http://railseibiya.web.fc2.com/

tl;dr: it's difficult but within reason

I quite liked Manakashi no Yuri wa Akaku Somaru.
I don't read yuri or guroshit, but combining them made it pretty interesting for me. Aside from the obvious glaring flaw (for me) that there are routes with a MALE character in a YURI game, I thoroughly enjoyed how fucked up Manami was. Especially the route where she and the MC gradually go off the deep end together, with the MC encouraging Manami's sadism and allowing things to escalate until she cuts off the MC's limbs to make her completely and totally dependent on her. Later on it ends with them both happily eating breakfast together, Manami feeding the MC, and Manami herself eating chunks of the MC's severed limbs. Pretty fucked up. This is framed as a happy ending too, which makes it even more unsettling. It really nailed the 愛のためどこまで狂えるかADV thing more than anything else else, considering the MC in the other route never actually chooses to endure Manami's treatment of her own will, but here she actually accepts it and encourages it. Definitely made it more fun having them both go completely bonkers. The MC is also extremely cute, her VA did a perfect job making her sound as pitiable as possible. Honestly thought I'd like the true ending of this game the most since I am weak to guroshit and love happy endings, but it's actually the tamest and therefore the shortest. Almost like the writer was saying fuck you for wanting your pure love ending (at least in comparison), you came here to read some fucked up shit, not this.
I haven't had enough of psychotic evil bitches, so time to read Semiramis now.

It is my belief that Ayana is an alternate personality residing within Mamiya Tomosane's body, created by Mamiya Takuji. She is where all of his discarded memories are stored (things he didn't want to remember were stored in Ayana). But not just discarded memories, but the memories of all of his personalities are in there, Ayana knows everything while the others have events they've blocked out. At first she didn't have a body and was just "discarded memories", but as Takuji regained power he created her image off of his "perfect girl" near the beginning of July 2012. In the VN, that is said to be Yuki, but as Yuki was a real person we know that could not have been the case. The personality that's Takuji's ideal girl is actually Ayana. Furthermore, Ayana is shown to have similar abilities to Takuji. In the classroom scene where he makes his three predictions as the savior, Takuji can predict the future of his physics class, it happens exactly as he believes it will while he dreams of it. Ayana is shown to be able to do the exact same thing on multiple occassions. Takuji is also shown to be able to distort his own reality, obviously, that's a main plot point with the twins and him blanking out words. It is my belief that Ayana can do something similar and did - she is Mahou Shoujo Riruru, and she is also the one who altered Mamiya's reality in several of the schizophrenic sequences (Futa scene, White vs Black Riruru scene, scene with God). Ayana says so herself in her ending that she is several other important characters, especially Yuki and Tomosane. Now, this doesn't explain something else, why does she also say that she was Zakuro? Here's what I think - Ayana's future prediction, and her really strong mind, are where all of the alternate endings come from. What I'm referring to are the Kimika endings in Inventions and Glass Insects. We know those do not happen canonically as they block off the other endings, the main endings. Many people explain them as alternate universes. I think they are what-ifs a bored Ayana imagines, as they are caused by diverging path due to choices in dialogue. This is how she can be Zakuro - she was the Zakuro in Kimika's ending in glass insects. In fact, she was Kimika too, she was everyone, it was all in her mind. To add to that, I believe she is also the one who let Yuki escape from the DtRH1 world Mamiya created. I'm pretty sure it's the canon explanation that DtRH1 is the "real" Yuki (the one with all of the memories) is kept while she is asleep and replaced by the "fake" Yuki without as many memories during the middle of July (the protagonist of DtRH2). Ayana is the one who frees her in the form of Zakuro. That's one of the "what-if" worlds that she thinks up, a world in which she went in the mind and helped Yuki to see what would happen. Lastly, I also think that the entire game itself is just Ayana imagining "what-ifs" at the start of July 2012. I think she is schizophrenic, which is a pretty popular theory, but that coupled with her supernatural abilities to control her mind make her stuck in a loop of July and taking "what-if" paths. In fact, I think the entire game is just her prediction of what will happen with choices, and none of it actually occurrs. There is no "canon" path, as none of it actually happens in the VN itself. Any of them could become the "canon" path depending on which choices the characters decide to go for on certain dates. The ability to predict the future is instant, it doesn't take time, as Takuji in the classroom goes to "sleep" for several minutes to imagine the future, but as soon as he wakes up he's at the exact same point he started. Ayana could be in a coma, or she could just be stuck in a mind-prison of imagining what-ifs that only lasts a singular moment, but to her has lasted an incredibly long time. That is the explanation for Subahibi. It's a portion of Ayana's what-ifs that is shown to the player. And that is my believed explanation of Ayana and Subahibi overall.

It's way easier in Japanese. One character uses colloquialisms, another talks archaically, the other talks slowly and shyly, the other ends all her sentences in なの or うぐぅ~, you get the idea. It's really easy to differentiate character speech in a language that relies to much on archetypical speech differences, doubly so if you're doing bishoujo games.

This is called yakuwarigo, it's not really particular to Japanese so much as it is just a tradition in Japanese literature. If a guy comes up and says washi~ and ~noja you're instantly like "ok this is the stock old guy character." No one really talks like that in "real" Japanese but you're allowed to do it in fiction as a shorthand. This is why Japanese prose narrative is typically very sparse in terms of speech tags ("he said," etc), you're meant to pick up who is speaking from the yakuwarigo. Anon has trouble writing characters that sound distinct in the same way because this is usually proscribed in English--even phonetically spelling out accents is frowned upon in English writing

I downloaded this game because her design is 10/10 (Yes, she looks exactly like Miko from Kaguya) but the writing in this game is really horrible. They keep saying MC is "nice" or having a "kind aura" when he acts just like normal human being and for some reason this supermodel who is totally inexperienced with men already flirting with him when they first met exactly 2 days ago. This is the simple kind of stuff I'm really enjoying reading lately. Seeing initially shy characters slowly open up to you after you show your reliability or help them with something they struggle(d) with is a common trope, but it's always pleasant. It's been a greatly-appreciated atmospheric leap from the lengthy intro portion where the protagonist is bitter as hell and has a mental breakdown. I'm not sure who I prefer of the three romanceable characters yet, though. I wonder if you have to do a NG+ to get the harem ending or not.

I did enjoy the couple of routes I played from cinderella.

Don't you guys hate it when you're super horny, load up the next h scene, and then cum way too early? I'm too autistic to skip forward/speedread so I sit through and read every single あ and ん after that totally flaccid.

Yeah, it really helps when there's a cum countdown, though usually only nukige have those.
>MC-kun you just came, let's go for another 4 rounds!
I mean, I could probably jack it 4 times in a row but I do need some preparation beforehand

Is it gay if you cum when the girl cums?

A certain tribe mutilated my penis at birth so doing it too much in a row hurts.

I don't know how some people can fap to a h scene and continue reading.
Usually after I fap my brain stops working properly for at least a few hours.

It's the opposite for me. After I fap my brain starts working and I stop reading visual novels.
