The brain associates words with memories, experiences, images, sounds, smells, etc. Anime cards just does exactly what the guy in the video talked about by having you put a screenshot of the scene on the card with the sentence and audio. This triggers your memory and reinforces the word in your mind by connecting it with that scene.
