The only differences between Wanibooks and Kidznet that I know of is that a PB published by Kidznet will get an extended version of the making-of DVD released some weeks later (you have to purchase it separatedly though). With Wanibooks the girl gets a digital PB after months or in some cases, a year. Also Wanibooks has been doing some campaign with some of the lastest PBs, if you order one via their website you get a different cover and a bonus picture.

I played that clip a couple of days ago with WMP and didn't notice anything weird but today I was playing it with VLC for the purpose of making a few caps and noticed it had a subs track which was surprising for two reasons:

1) I can't remember the last time I've seen an avi fiile with soft subs. (Oh how I wish all avi subs were soft.)

I had no issues during playback with ffdshow+mpc. If anyone has playback issues then they just probably have slow PCs.

yes, we are. Although all programs broadcast on terrestrial ISDB (ISDB-T) are 1440x1080, they are in 1.33:1 format (16:9). It shouldn't actually play back at 1440x1080, but at 1920x1080. I'm using Media Player Classic 1.3.1264.0 with the libavcodec.h264 codec playing this video.
I just rechecked my manual set ratio aspect back to 1:33 the setting was keep at the original 1:78.
Then the player proceeded to crash ...but I think I have it set right now.

I dunno, I have it set to 4:3 ratio and its still at 1440
are you sure you aren't force upscaling even further?
Maybe I'm missing one more thing?

You shouldn't have to set it to anything though, the player should automatically recognize the video tagged as 16:9

Well your screen shot shows none of the things I just adjusted to get where I was. Maybe you have some different overlay settings that are automatically adjusting it to fit the screen.

Ahh got it, it was the 16:9 thing that got it
only thing that matters was the manual 1:33 setting.

I don't think its any coincidence that the H!P releases use the lower quality stream, I mean after all they have a rather thriving photocard industry going and the last thing they want is users creating hi-quality shots and being satiated lol.
Not that I don't mind looking at a good screen capture and I'm guess I'm glad I'm not in HD anon's realm of digital assessment because it would be a much more annoying experience. Little ignorance is bliss definitely helps here until substantial changes are made.

well it is H!P's fault in that they record absolutely all of their PVs and concerts in SD. The reason HD material from earlier than 2003 looks better is because ISDB-T didn't exist yet. All HD material was broadcast from satellites using ISDB-S.

Most TV stations now vastly lower the bitrate and quality of their HD material in order to shove some SD channels in on the same stream, saving costs.

I think they were even shown earlier than that, as I have a bunch of H!P summer concert clips from 2001 and 2002 in HD (only clips, no full concert though...). They were in analog HD too back then (fuck yeah)

IMO, the 2006 summer concert is the best quality video of H!P that I have ever seen, it was on ISDB-S and had minimal blurring and artifacts. Fuck you NHK for not broadcasting H!P concerts anymore....
