That's not quite right.
Her honor student status was part of her own decision and a result of her upbringing. Her emotions and behavior are all her own seeing how she lived alone.

In the story Ilya only followed her grandfather's orders and acted according to her own whims. She truly did care for Shirou and even liked Rin. Her personality was that she stayed with the people she liked and didn't tolerate people that weren't necessary.
