They're mostly new VAs. I guess the logic is that by hiring fresh young VAs, they're securing the franchise for the next 15-20 years.
But the end result is that these newbies don't have any range and very little experience, so everyone sounds boring. And the worst part is that even if they develop themselves over the next decade, they're gonna have to back and do the same boring voice they did for all these characters.
This idea of "future-proofing" the series at the expense of the quality is so ridiculous. I've been playing Guilty Gear Xrd and going through its storymode with Strive coming out tomorrow, and it's got an all star voice cast. Junichi Sawabe, Joji Nakata, Koyasu, Wakamoto, all in the same game. It's fantastic. And all those guys are over 50, or close to it. Fucking Satomi Koroogi is almost 60 and she still sounds great as May.

The act of securing and franchising Tsukihime is basically just sugarcoating what it really is which is Type Moon selling out and wanting to make another cash cow. It has been implicitly made clear enough and makes enough business sense even if I am personally against it due to its ramifications.

But they really could've done better with the new VAs as long as they know the role they are supposed to play and have heard what prior VAs in Melty Blood sounded like because they had some shoes to fill. But it's like besides Shiki and Arc, which sounded different but good for their respective characters, everyone else fell short or sounded really generic and didn't try. I will give some slack to the more side characters like Arihiko and Aoko for now since we heard little from them. I guess I can also give some slack for now for the maids and Akiha even though they lacked traits like Kohaku not being fake genki enough.

But the most egregious is Ciel in my opinion who is supposed to have a route in the game releasing in a little more than 3 months and sounds terrible compared to her old VA and doesn't fit her personality. I'm not sure how old fans are supposed to convert over if this is the best Type Moon could've offered them on top of the already egregious move of selling the VN in two halves and not on PC. Type-Moon are retarded enough that this is possible, it's either trying to keep their hubris or ego about a "promise" they made (and they still haven't uncancelled Girl's Work) which has the sole purpose of only appealing to their roots and core audience at the time. The problem is that they made too many changes about the VN itself already starting off with the redesign itself after a gap of no news after 2008 which has already split and lost older fans who would go out and be the most likely to get this. So it isn't clear who exactly would buy this.

We already know what failure looks like for them. Look at how well Mahoyo sold and how Type-Moon still hasn't made the second game out of a supposed trilogy despite the fact that the first game from announcement to release took only 4 years and we are at 8 years and counting for that second game with no announcement. The fact that they got funding from Aniplex to do stuff like ufotable PVs and new VAs on top of releasing only half of the original VN for consoles means the focus is to drive engagement via not Type-Moon's traditional core VN audience on PC in Japan but the console audience in Japan instead which has a bigger install base. Most likely, it's to rope people who are already engaged with another Type-Moon property on console via Fate. I'm not one to say that is a slam dunk argument for selling out but it is a persuasive and plausible one. Especially because if Type-Moon makes this and Aniplex has already funded the base game, then Aniplex will always have their share of the pie in the franchise from this point on no matter what comes out for Tsukihime next and they can dictate what gets made and when.

I think this backs up the theory some people have been having that the remake isn't really courting older fans that well, and newer fans that have been introduced to Type-Moon via a Fate spinoff or property aren't necessarily open to switching to find out what Tsukihime is, which makes the franchising theory less likely. How well do extraverse games sell? They don't sell anywhere close to FGO so I'm not sure why people assume money is the prime reason as to why Tsukihime or Mahoyo sequels might not be made.
