It's a mixture of things. Love him or hate him, Nasu's writing style is very unique and he has a distinct voice. That makes it harder to convey things in another language right off the bat. He uses a lot of figurative language with particular connotations or even double meanings at times by going full chuuni with kanji or something. Some of very technical explanations/descriptions that show up in his work (like Souren's monologues in KnK 5) are extremely dense. Plus Japanese and English are just inherently very different languages so it makes it hard translate.

For example, below is the opening text of F/SN (pic related is the English). You don't have to know any Japanese at all to notice that the repetition in the last two lines is missed in the translation. Little things like that are often missed simply because of language difference. Nasu's word choice here is very colorful and distinct (I really like 繰り出される槍の穂) whereas the English is relatively plain in comparison. I'm not faulting Takajun here. This is just hard to do. You'd have to be a really good writer in English too.

Actually the more I refresh my memory the more I realize the messenger boy thing (like, actually appearing young(er) at will) is a non-canon deviation associated with later creative writers (similar to the aging-backward thing). It was likely him at that young age, not a de-aged transition (although he could change his appearance either way). But his time with King Arthur was essentially that of an old man's wise advice.

A young Merlin isn't as far-fetched as it would appear, but certainly only in the less-experienced sense, and not the advisor-to-Arthur sense.

Yeah, KT is good in seeing how many new and different things you can find on your own. I was playing the game without a guide at the start and seeing all of the choices and all of the crazy stuff with the end of the world and the killer are great moments. I just think the magic wears off once you have to use a guide to continue the plot and are railroaded to the ending. I have an idea for a project, once the TsukiRemake comes out.

Basically what I want to do, is take visual assets like sprites, backgrounds and so on from the Remake, and use them to properly "re-make" the original Tsukihime.
So, it would be identical to the original in every way, except visually.
Does that sound like a good idea to any of you? I think it would be fun.
Considering that the visuals are the only thing I'm looking forward with this Remake, after all the FGO-related stuff Nasu's been talking about. I'm very cautious about it.

Nasu isn't human. Look at the sort of characters and concepts it writes. Look at the logic and thought process of the people that populate the TM verse like the mages. None of them behave or think like a normal human would. TM magus main motivation is to reach the root and to do that they pass on their research to their descendants using magic crests. Magus basically treat themselves as nothing more than hard drives and parts of some kind of a supercomputer just processing data to try and solve a problem (reach the root).

Artoria's whole deal is being too perfect she's inhuman. Even the antagonists have warped logic and thought process, like Araya Souren, whose idea of attaining his goals is just to keep looping life and death in an apartment like some kind of data processing machine just doing the same thing over, over again to collect stats. Kotomine Kirei's whole deal is the inability to comprehend basic joys experienced by normal humans. Look at Nasu's need to keep writing about automatons trying to be human or humans acting like automatons. Shirou is a human lacking in normal human sense of self-preservation, his Trace On scene is even structured as if he was writing a code or executing a program. Einzberns are nothing more than a bunch of homunculus programmed to continue their task even after the original human magus were gone. Nasu also loves writing about villains that have some grand, good intentions. But said good intentions are botched due to the execution or interpretations being warped. This is very similar to the typical sci-fi dystopian stories about humans getting wrecked by the robots they built because the robots or AI just execute the orders without understanding the contexts or reasoning.

Nasu is an actual alien or an abandoned rogue AI. Or is a literal mushroom eggplant that gained sentience when Takeuchi jacked off to them in a pot. But most definitely isn’t human, much less possess or even understand the concept of gender.
