Concentration (early on) and Charge is shit. Increase Spear Accuracy is better than Concentration early on. Max out Flying Spear. Get your STR to at least the next bonus of 21 total (maxatk bonuses are 6, 11, 16, 21.., minatk is by 9s). Get Dex to 20, hitbonus is by 10s. Don't pump vit or agi too early, start those at 30+. Farmer if you like, well, farming. Making millions of sandwiches is pretty cool, and quite profitable. You won't be able to do much early on, however, since you will be too weak to fight and will have to rely on exp leeching to go up quickly.

Shamans and warlocks, if you can find a good party, level ridiculously fast as the main source of DPS. Warlocks do more damage early on, but I have a hunch that us shamans will overtake them with elemental damage later on (I want to believe ;_;).

Or you could go Vates, everyone needs Vates.

That depends. They each have their ups and downs:

Wizards are bad at dealing damage, they have flashy stuff that looks cool but ultimately all they can do that matters in a party - or at all, really - is the Decoy skill they get at job level 14, which is pretty self-explanatory. It also looks cool.

Warlocks are sort of okay, I think they've gotten a buff since CB because they do pretty ridiculous damage now compared to what I'd seen before.
However, that doesn't change the fact that they have only one attack skill until level 30, and are only useful for sniping mobs in possession. Even then they're second to Shamans.

Vates. If you want to be good, don't pick a Vates.
If you want to solo, don't pick a Vates.
If you want to survive anything at all ever, don't pick a Vates.
If you want to have friends and get in parties often, there's your job.
tl;dr if you pick a Vates you're not /jp/

Finally, we have Fencers. Fencers are good, survive shit, ultimate tanks. They can also have sort of okay damage output too if you pump STR and DEX enough, especially DEX.
Also they wield rapiers AND spears, that's so goddamn cool.
The downside is that they're overplayed and most rings are like 70% fencers, people probably won't need you if you play one because they have enough. True story.

The RIGHT way to play this game is to roll a backpacker.

But really, get in a party and possess someone; at later levels you can NEVER survive without doing that, better get used to it now. You can get levels off chickens for a while though, but if you manage to get smuggled east (and lag little enough to escape the wrath of boars) you can kill the Young ChockKos for a fuckton of exp at that level. They don't have too much HP from what I remember.

38 lock here. You have no ideea. We have the worst cast time of all the classes. I run all over the place trying to cast my AMAZING BLAK WIDOW OF ONESHOT, only to have 3 shamans, a mage and a fencer pop in and wipe the whole spawn before i get a single spell off. Warlocks are the worst of the 3 damage oriented casters. This might change at 40 with Shadow Blast, but I'm not holding my breath.

get your free marionette at base level 10 ( 1 per account, at uptown some ho gives it, tell her she's beautiful and ask her questions about marionettes ) and turn it in golem ( free golem goblet at guild palace, forgot where in there, 1 per account ), turn him into a shop at a safe spot, login to other account and buy the stuff you need. I don't think logging in to 2 accounts at the same time works anymore with gameguard. haven't seen any mail system but if there's one then use that, much easier.

Well, Guild Merchant bank turns out to be between characters of same account.
