Get at least half-way N2 (to give an idea), with emphasis on the grammar. That will make you keen enough to detect new grammar cases that you can then look up. Then you can start reading eroge without your comprehension being too hindered.
'Easy' means no purple prose, no obscure vocabulary, and simple constructions.
There isn't really any 'elementary level' eroge no matter how these anons tell you, because you'd be missing to much vocabulary and kanji, but you can fix that with a dictionary or text hooking.

I just wish Smee would've had some variety, like how it was in M*L where 2 of the 5 heroines were JK, two roughly same age as MC, and one cake. Hajirabu has one 3rd year, two 2nd years, and a 1st year. That kind of age difference is a joke.

Not much to say since it's been years since I read Loverable and I don't remember everything, but the after-stories for Chinatsu and Kaho have been enjoyable so far. I liked that they addressed the loose end of Kaho and MC's parents in her route, was a satisfying continuation and conclusion of her route in the main game. Its a unique setting in the sense that its not a historical fiction series like the Koihime games but its just Edo japan with smatterings of technology. The selectable episode stuff also fell apart for me when I got to the end of the game and it turns out you have to go through the ending like 18 times with minor differences followed by a very short epilogue for everyone but the main heroines. Protip, an elementary school student already has a better grasp on the language than all but the most dedicated lifelong foreign speakers. They may not have the most extensive vocabulary or the most refined way of speaking, but their ability to intuitively understand the language is greater than yours will ever be. Just to put it in perspective how far you have to go to achieve true proficiency.
When you’re just starting out it doesn’t make much sense to think about readings in terms of “easy” and “hard” because everything will be hard for you. May as well just go with stuff that has furigana and/or the easiest kanji to make it easier to look stuff up in the dictionary.

This doesn't seem true. At least for the first assertion, the claim is blatantly false, if grasp of a language is to be measured by ability to communicate with it. Language intuition is also nonsense, there is no innate structure gained from learning a language as a native. A learner of 3 years diligently could easily have a far better understanding than a child, Japanese really isn't that hard.

>> No.34881909

>>34881809
>there is no innate structure gained from learning a language as a native
Yeah, it does. Your first language that you learn when you're a child is deeply integrated in your brain, and it hinders people from fully exhibiting their second or third language(that people learn after 12) skills. Unless your mother tongue is extremely similar to Japanese you'll encounter trouble expressing things in Japanese. This is all settled science.

>> No.34882401

>>34881909
Make up your mind. Is it comprehension or expression that you care about. Considering people here are mainly concerned about comprehension, and that's what was the trigger to the topic, that's what I've gone with. There is no proven science about children's brains being different that grants them an advantage over second language learners. In terms of comprehension, a child is simply not going to be better than an adult. The only advantage granted to natives is that they get exposure to the language naturally and without preconceived notions or bias, a non-native learner can achieve similar results if they follow similar techniques.

Just finished Silverio Vendetta, it was great. True ending was on the bittersweet side bitter for the side cast but not for me, staying with the goddess Vendetta is the best ending.

How are Trinity and Ragnarok? The heroines are not as instantly eye-catching as Vendetta but if the package in general is solid I wouldn't mind reading them too.

>> No.34890814

>>34889984
I liked Trinity a lot as a sequel, even a little better than Vendetta as it built upon a lot of the ideas introduced and discussed in Vendetta. Definitely play Trinity too if you enjoyed the first game.

Ragnarok isn't as strongly related to the first two and was somewhat of a letdown compared to them, but at the very least the production values and chuuni elements didn't disappoint. It was a decent end to the 新西暦 universe but not really a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy as a whole. Still worth checking out, but don't expect anything better than the first two. If do end up reading it, the extra story added in the vita version of Trinity serves as a nice lead-in to Ragnarok.

>How are Trinity and Ragnarok?
Trinity is really good and is the rare example of a sequel that actually builds upon and explores the themes the first game. It's a lot more polished in the sense that all the routes are pretty good rather than the true route being completely heads and shoulders above, well it still is but you get what I mean. It also has Rain, who is probably my favourite heroine throughout the entire series, she's great. Silverio also has some great antagonists which rival even Chris from Vendetta.
Ragnarok is a bit of an odd case, I don't think it's nearly as good as the first 2 games but it certainly had it's moments and all in all was an alright conclusion for the series.

Life is too short to play stuff, where your favorite character designs are among the minor characters. Same for voice actors.

I've come to the conclusion that the really good works are usually a combination of everything being good, or rather to your liking. Mind you, that doesn't mean hot girls or whatever. Pic related also works. Regardless of how the art and sound design of a game is, it affects it heavily. And in this case it supports the overall mood and was chosen with intent.
I've seen games get absolutely carried the fuck by voice actors outperforming themselves. They can't save something that can't be saved, but sure as fuck help cover some flaws here and there. Music and art can as well.

There's stuff like Umineko, where the artstyle in itself is a big part of the game's atmosphere and how you look at characters, that completely changes with better art. It's actually interesting how this works. Art alone has huge impact on the general atmosphere and style of a VN, and how you think about characters.

tl;dr: Read the first line.

All the heroines have appealing qualities, though they can neatly be classified as the usual archetypes such as ojousama, childhood friend, tomboy, etc, minus any tsunderes (so far). Notably, your little sister and a girl with a 190 IQ are included as heroines. Also, the girls get upset if you pursue another girl at the same time as them, even though it’s easy to do so. I’ve only gotten the bad/alone ending, but my only complaint as of now would be that obtaining the friendship endings seems to require just as much effort as the love endings.

As an American I feel an innate revulsion to any literature that is too deeply tied to America a place. To make a comparison with "high school novels", To Kill a Mockingbird is specifically about America and its own particular social issues and I despise it. America as a physical location/setting is fine with me, but in terms of social issues and what not I'm with you 100%. I've had that beaten over my head a million times and it's a tired, old subject. But even then, I generally find British authors to have far superior prose on average. Maybe I'm just a sucker for 18-19th-century style English but it has a refined quality that just doesn't exist anymore. Will probably pick up loopers. Wonder if will go full Keyshit in the end since it feels a lot different compared to their other works.

For the games i played recently:
Motto haramase succubus edition: Found it better then the previous entries but it is just more of the same.

Muramasa Janen hen: Blade arts was pure fanficiction of the bad kind. Only good parts are the Ero scene and the last part of the final battle. Pretty sure i missed something here by not playing Hanachirasu. Muramasa the movie was really witty and has a great premise. The Kanae story line was great up untill the choice. Both outcomes don't really add anything to Kanae as a character for me.

Misaki after. Funniest part of Nukitashi i've read so far. In particular The Gunshot soundclip gag and the parody of Fumino's line from Nukitashi 1. Also related on a spiritual level with Jun when he went in the eroge settings menu and disabled voices stopping when you click through the text before the voiceline is finished.
bit off topic but i also read through 夢十夜because it got parodied in Nukitashi 2. Dreams 1, 6 and 7 are great.

I know I'm pretty late here but I finally finished Wagahime. Don't have much to say that hasn't already been said. It's good enough - not incredible, not bad, just decent. Has a lot of problems but most of the cast is likeable enough to carry it. Probably would've been better with a 4th route instead of trying to turn Crone's into a true route and Noa/Crone's romances were pretty weak.
I'll still read Wagahime S/As for the Last/Mimi/Yorkshire/Moody routes.

Yeah I'm struggling to comprehend what they're going to do for a fandisc/S-scenario. Since every other route/characters were building up to the shitty true route with the fukajun villain. Plenty of girls missed out and the side heroines didn't really receive that much love. The Imperial police, Ymir, and Rhodia as well. I guess they could just do what they did in S and quickly sweep up Vector's bullshit

Just kill/imprison Vector and explain to end that if he keeps being a bitch his girlfriend won't want him anymore and you solve the entire plot, from there you can do whatever romantic shenanigans you want, maybe throw in a new villain or two for some drama if you need it. There's enough there to work with that you could have something pretty fun. Then just have the fandisc have three starting points, one for each route. Or, honestly, you could just say that the events of Crone's route happened and they didn't hook up and use that as the starting point, the romance between Crone/Shaon was so underdeveloped that you could change it and say that she just loves him as a little brother and nothing would change except for no h-scenes.

It's actually one of the less well done things of the game. If they want to do a yuri romance, and go through all the "how the heck am I going to explain that I like a girl", having a male MC trap anyway kinda makes it all feel pointless and dumb.
