Yes, there's quite a few eroge where you have to "coincidentally" keep bumping into a girl repeatedly over a X day period. The Cation series has this problem big time, to the point where nearly every day you have at least one 偶然 and none of the heroines ever say anything about how this is the 6th time this week how you've bumped into them on the street around town.

It can be kinda funny, but I still think it's weird. Little Busters has one scene I remember, where Rin very obviously wants to skip club or whatever and quickly leaves the classroom. As a nice person you don't run after her, but just act as if you'd not have seen anything. But this kind of stuff almost never works in a VN. It's always "run after her".

It's why I'm not really that hot about tons of choices anyways. It's ultimately just "run after the character you want" many times in a row, with lots of common route skipping for the next playthrough, which gets annoying fast. And if it actually isn't, it quickly gets into "guide dangit" territory, because games often want you to get every single damn thing right.

Lot's of choices only really work in a few games. Those few games it worked and I played were pretty nice. But it's so fucking rare.

Sure, some eroge don't have much else, or it's just too integral. Also I agree with the anon, that no matter the amount of porn, you can have a decent story around it, or even a good one. It's rare though.

Also I personally love eroge that actually fully abuse the fact they are eroge, and incorporate adult themes into the story, in a relatively natural way, or even in a not so natural way. It's just weird, when the entire game is like an ecchi anime at most, but has full blow ero scenes thrown at you randomly. I mean, I take it, but then I kinda prefer a non adult version, if there's any. One of the reasons I like Astronauts games once in a while. They don't shy away from being eroge. Same goes for Alice Soft and some other games.

-Tojita Sekai. That game has a chapter, where you can do many things as you see fit, with over 20 different endings, before eventually the possibility to get to the next chapter arises. You don't have to go there until you feel like you are done with all you want though.

-Kamaitachi no Yoru: It doesn't really branch routes or anything, it's about figuring out what happened. A bit rough, due to its age, but definitely a way to do choices.

It's really not a lot, but the reason why Tojita Sekai works is, because all those choices aren't really in a common route or so. You very quickly branch, which is why there's not really a lot of repetition and it's actually fun to mess around. Kamaitachi no Yoru works, because you have a simple goal in mind, and you really just play the game.
Most games with tons of choices have just too much repetition to make it fun. (or they don't matter) Like I enjoy the choices and messing around in Little Busters, but the common route is so long, it's fun once, and then it's time for a guide. Though in that case I just stopped playing the game there, because of the majority of the cast having been incredibly underwhelming. And I think the game enforced to play all the routes before the only route I would've been interested in.

I have only read Asami's character events in saihate fanport for now. Took me 2 days on and off to complete it. I have also started another VN now and will play another route from this after some time.
Asami's route felt like your usual 00s charage heroine route. One Interesting thing I've noticed is how a couple of ideas that are just "told" in saihate no ima in the form of monologue ramblings are "shown" in this. The humor is zany and over-the-top slapstick stuff like heroine constantly getting arrested by cops for cosplaying in public.

I'm still planning to play it at some point, as someone who doesn't really like chuuni. But I have to know for myself if that rather iconic game is actually just the typical chuuni dumb dumb going, or has some actual writing in there.

Fortissimo showed me, that I can enjoy a story, even if battles are dumb chuuni. It has stakes, consequences, every battle will have an impacting result (someone dies), and really awesome music on top of it. That was important, because the battle writing itself, it being chuuni, isn't very interesting. So not quite knowing how it ends, with actual stakes, makes it more interesting. Also, aside of early on, every character is well defined, so you don't have random villains fight the good guys.
In comparison 3rd eye just has asspull battles, without consequences (usually enemies escape or, if at the end, kill themselves / give up) and no music to back it up either. They create nice settings (the third game at least), but don't use it well, due to the silly status quo writing they have, preventing anything interesting from happening. Also obviously all good guys have plot armor.


I always wanted to check light (and propeller), to see on which side they are. I know that 3rd Eye is the more "normal" chuuni, that you sometimes find in non completely chuuni works as well, in an arc or two. Kinda funny how these two companies are both dead now, while 3rd eye is still alive. I think at least.

Dies irae is pretty long VN so it has a lot of writing, a lot of battles too but they are well spread across the story. Despite the bad guys being well defined (like in Fortissimo) there are plenty of twists.

It is a 100% recommended read and the music is great, I would say better than Fortissimo though the style of both is similar.

I figured at least Kasuri, with her character, would stay SOMEWHAT out of it, and she got the shortest stick instead. Misunderstandings galore, plus the obligatory MC donkan.

In the end, I'd call Rea and Yui's routes the best. Parfait doesn't get close to what Chocolat did at its best, but is overall a more stable experience. It's funny how Rea's route ends up as one of the best, but after all the other routes I can say, at least her stuff is a bit different, and it's not just pointless jelly going on, like in every single other route.

As a bonus, Mizuna's route. A lot better structured than all the original routes, but not as well executed. Also the similarity to Rea's route is uncanny.
