Seems like a surprising amount of people use controllers (and analog sticks at that) apparently split in half for advanced players, while less experienced players seem to prefer the keyboard.

I'd think it's probably likely that casual players just don't feel like hooking up a gamepad to play with their toohoos whereas the hardcore players get on the gamepad regularly with other games as well. Again, the data sample is too small but that could be a possible explanation.

I tried using both D-pad and analog stick on my gamepad, but the former made maneuvering to collect power-ups hard and made me lose control fast, while the latter was too slow and uncomfortable.

Funny, keyboard feels uncomfortable for me. Especially rapidly using the arrow keys for so long.

Though controller feels a little stiff in the games before MoF, which made control a lot more fluid.

I thought IN just had an easier easy mode and the rest were average.
I can barely survive past Reisen on normal IN so I guess I've got no chance with the other games normal modes...

IN is easy, with the possible exception of the stage 4 boss. "Hurr theres two of you, so I get TWO turns!" (give or take four or five)

SA is hard because it's like a tour of annoying hax. Spells that chase you (Parsee) curvy lasers (Yuugi) entrapment spells and resurrecting fairies (Orin) and BWEE BWEE BWEE ZOMG HUEG DANMAKU (Okuu)

No, I mean extending the USB mousepoll setting to work for keyboard. It's a trivial one line change, you should be able to figure it out. (I have all the low latency settings on too).

Could be better, could be just placebo. Too annoying to do real ABX testing unless I figure out some way to reset HID devices without replugging them.

the whole UFO easy or hard thing seems to have split a lot of people. Personally, I can't beat normal with continues, yet I've had no trouble 1CC-ing other Touhou games on normal mode.

However, it's really hard on Lunatic. For now, I can't beat stage 5 with continues.

About the difficulty, I've cleared EoSD, IN and amost did PCB all on hard, but UFO on hard is fucking hell. I've been literally playing it everyday the last 2 weeks trying to 1cc it and so far the furthest I got was Byakuren with one life left. I blame Shou, her non-spellcard attacks always manage to land a hit on me.

Or normal it's very doable if you farm red UFOs, I did a survival replay not long ago for those that are having difficulties, you can grab it here:

Hard, Keyboard. I was training for 1cc Lunatic runs of a couple of the games before, and then I kinda trailed off because it took too much time for the amount of improvement I was getting compared to before, where I could move up a difficulty every month or so. Now I only play once every week or two and I can't consistently 1cc Hard anymore.
