What happened with Trinero was really a shame. They did things right and were really getting somewhere with it, Ma-fia is nice but they never reached that sense of cohesion and complementarity that they had when the gen was complete. Kaoru bounced well with them and it wasn't really a surprise that he is often in the center of fanarts involving them.
Many props to Shien and Oga for keeping on and reaching the point they are now despite all what happened to them quite early since they began.

I'm glad that Shien spoke about the 4th gen. Said that theyre all still trying to overcome the feeling of lost about those 3 members. Having 4th gen just to "fill up" those who left is just a bad idea and I dont even mind if they ended up not adding more members, since the smaller the group is the easier to get along with. Especially since all of them has grown together, the new 3 members would have the "privilege" of being carried by them already.

A really big fucking shame. Their popularity was booming just like how it happened with hololive's sankisei to the point that I saw people checking the boys out when they would have never do so otherwise, and unfortunately I saw those same people drop them the moment Kaoru graduated. I love Mafia, but to put it simply it feels incomplete even after nearly a year has passed. Kaoru was the one that reached out for collabs and like you said their sense of cohesion was at their peak when he was present. I am not one to care for NUMBERSSSSSSS that much outside of feeling happy for the boys when they hit a milestone, but he would most likely have over 200k subs by now if he didn't have left. For the short period of time he was part of TriNero, he helped the Stars as a whole a lot. I will forever miss him.

I get what Shien is saying and where he is coming from, I like the size of the group now and focusing on gaining more domestic fans is important but I think some of the hunger for a new gen is less people looking for replacements and more just wanting new talents and skills.

I don't know what combos would be both good fits and something that the Japanese audience would probably enjoy but someone with connections that is social would be useful, and a trpg player. Those in combination really do sound like a Karou replacement but those are both useful and a popular niche thats now gone even though the boys do trpgs infrequently and Rikka is pretty social and well connected.
Outside of that just different music/singing styles and gaming interest, someone willing to endurance new and strange games, someone bilingual, someone with a stronger art focus, someone that can turn up the pandering and asmr, etc. Current stars of course are great though, I trust in good picks if they ever do a 4th gen.

Maybe he thought that because of how many loanwords are in katakana, I would assume most people learn hiragana first and then katakana, quickly after one another.
I'm n500 but honestly theres certain kanji I'm more familiar with than katakana, so many of the loan words are pronounced so differently that sometimes its really confusing for me.

Knowing how Japan is, I'd assume casual drummers are more rare than other types of instruments. First of all theres literally less space around to be able to just practice it whenever you want, or you kit out a soundproofed studio to make it tolerable for neighbors.
