Writing a proper tale of good and evil requires knowledge that goes far beyond that. Crafting characters from the ground up as tools, working with metaphors and symbols to tell a story that goes beyond what's written in plain text, and earnestly teaching a lesson in what you actually believe as a person - that takes actual balls. And it's much easier to screw up, which is why we saw so many successful "dark fantasy" stories over the years, and yet pretty much no one managed to replicate the genius of the original LOTR, simple as it may have seemed to be.

It's a matter of taste really, and whether you don't mind giving up the atmosphere of the movies. The manga isn't very pretty in the early volumes but it's gotten better. Oblivion Recorder aside (which got watered down a lot and is being properly adapted in the manga), the rest of the movies were good adaptations. The manga is "better" if you want some extra dialogues or find out how some scenes were rearranged for the movies. Basically if you really like KnK.

Haven't you realized the master plan yet? How many routes does Tsukihime have - 5 routes. How many routes are released in the first part of the remake - 2 routes. This means that the next part will have 2 routes as well (probably maidos). Now the third and final part is going to be Akiha, but you can't have only 1 route, so Nasu is going to include a second route. Who could it be? Only Sacchin qualifies!
Thus logic dictates that we'll be getting an Akiha/Satsuki routes in the final part of the remake trilogy.

The short "fight" scene of Kirei vs Assassin/Zouken in the church was kino as fuck with the slow motion shots and Kirei's monologue.
The Rider vs Saber fight was really fucking cool and more hype than I remember from the VN.
Kirei vs Shirou was better than the VN.

They kept the important shirou monologues and inner thoughts. Metaphors, facial expressions, parallels, you name it. All the important Shirou thoughts are there but you want it spelled out to you in words instead of interpreting the animation the way the staff worked hard to try and convey to you

Honestly sad that we won't get the full trilogy of routes adapted. It feels so incomplete. Everything got fucked since everyone and their mom got spoiled from Fate/Zero showing that the HGW was corrupt so now if you adapt Fate there aren't any more surprises. We all know Kirei is a villain too. Now that UBW and HF have been adapted going back to the route that establishes everything wouldn't do much for viewers who've already seen the conclusion to the VN. Even so, Fate needs to be adapted to complete Saber's character development in the anime continuity. We still haven't seen her let go of her regrets. I don't think the anime even let us know that her wish is to erase herself from history and let someone else rule as King.

I still can't decide what to think of Shirou and Archer's fight because while they did try to get the idea across, they completely ruined the feeling that it was a frustrated and out-of-energy future Shirou that threw away everything he had at the moment in order to have a fit. In the VN he's lashing out and beating down on Shirou with no technique or finesse, no UBW, no projections. Thus, Shirou is able to withstand it and keep standing out of sheer willpower. Archer realized from the start that he was in the wrong but didn't want to accept it, and had his ideal staring him in the face and tried to smash it away but never put his full strength behind it. The adaptation does get across that he's throwing a fit but they have it done in an overblown and unbelievable way where Shirou is blocking huge streams of UBW swords because hey, that's what the route is called right? Never mind that Gil isn't meant to know it exists or anything like that and is supposedly watching the whole thing unfold amusedly except he misses most of it because they're in a Reality Marble now.

Also there's unfitting JPop during an otherwise good new scene I guess.

I've detailed in an earlier thread how terribly composed the majority of it is. Even if you make something pretty, that won't make it interesting. That's just superficial beauty, and it doesn't even really achieve that. I'm not even sure where to begin with the rest of it from the stupid still-frames to the kiais to the sound design to the fucking peek-a-boo. I've never felt more secondhand embarrassment watching an anime. It completely missed the point of the original as well.

It's not all the same, but all the movies are still pretty bad in this regard. I think it may be a matter of a lot of the details earlier on in the story not popping out as much. There's all sorts of weirdly paced parts like how the montage immediately leads into the church, then Berserker jumps them right out the front door with distractingly abridged dialogue, the fight suddenly ends, then they're in a park, then they're suddenly fighting Shinji in an alley, suddenly we're meeting Kirei at a random restaurant and suddenly we're not, etc.
