Gatekeeping rarely work if the staff is not a part of the community, and allow people that the gate is supposed to keep out to establish themselves in the community. Even less so if the staff themselves are a part of the savages that the gatekeepers are trying to fend off.

As for OPs question: dunno. It's just something I realised over time as I delved deeper into a hobby.

I was just referring to /jp/ and some other board that has been overrun by everything it tried keeping out. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some who do though. Maybe some creator made a certain thing to appeal to a niche, and then out of nowhere it gets popular among casuals.

When I started browsing 4chan around the mid 2010's. There were a few comfy places and coming back to this site in 2021 i've seen entire boards fall to discord groups and other stuff. Some boards here now are no different than a discord or subreddit.

/lgbt/ is now full of leftist discod and twitter trannies, to the point where they are completely disconnected from the rest of the site. (before they would at least shit talks sjw tranners reference about blanchard, and shit talk hons and the like who made them look bad.)

/lit/ is no different, people will unironically call you an incel there for making a conservative post.

Others just have the same low effort thumbnails with dumbshit questions spewed out all over the board, /fit/ is like this now.

with vtubers I checked it out when EN first started. People that followed the JP group started complaining about newfags not respecting the culture in it. I noticed on here before /vt/ the people posting on here weren't old fags but the same obnoxious cunts that jumped on it when EN started. You could tell because they all loved Gura because she was the one with the most subs, and posted low effort memes and shit everywhere, gura fags were cancerous and were the bane of all other vtuber fans, old and new alike.

One guy in a discord group for a vtuber told me how a lot of these gura fans were literal children. Like 14 year olds and younger. He told me how is 9 year old sister watches gura. That's the calibre of newfags that flooded the the vtuber fandom. Was the cause for /vt/ and the leakage from it that still find it's way on /jp/.

That's when I learned gatekeeping was important.

It was a slow decline but what really was the final nail was moot encouraging a board invasion in a live interview back a decade or so ago. There was no realistic way /jp/ could defend itself and keep its insular culture when moot basically did the worst thing possible to destroy it. It was already done by that point. Being a dumping ground for non-related /a/ and /v/ topics only really was piling on its grave. I only go to the threads for a specific topic like most other boards now and have heavy filters otherwise.

vt*bers are not as much of an issue as they were 3 months ago. The 3DPD generals rot has been going on for years and shows no sign of slowing down, most of the time you won't see a single Touhou thread in the first 3 pages of /jp/. If it wasn't for the catalog view you'd assume /jp/ is just an idolfag spinoff of /mu/

>> No.34230504

It wasn't a live interview, it was the 10th anniversary panel in 2013. But you're right about what happened and even though moot apologized 2 years later during his farewell stream in 2015, it's like apologizing for killing the last animal or plant of a species and causing its extinction after the fact. Still kind of hurts.

They all started when people wanted to leave for some reason and because people found themselves that way, it just means they all have their own specific drama that gatekeeps you instead of the topic.
I would say changing it way better than dealing with v-things since /jp/ is becoming just as bad as the rest of 4chan but I just can't leave.

It feels like a new general pops up every other month now. And not necessarily just for 3DPD. It makes me wonder what /jp/ will look like 5 years from now on. I can't imagine hiromoot hiring a bona fide /jp/sie to fix this place anytime soon.
