Finished PS3 version of Umineko.

For those considering emulating - since as far as I know there doesn't seem to be PS3 content patch that works with any of the original untranslated PC versions - both games are playable but have several crashes and freezes. OP movie can potentially cause a freeze at start-up, and specific rarely used graphical effects seem to always crash the game without fail, which I didn't manage to fix. Thankfully you can skip said effects, since the backlog function allows you to jump to any future line as well, so you can play through the entire thing without missing anything. They're also rare enough that you don't have to constantly restart the emulator. RPCS3 itself is really easy to set up and you just need to enable Strict Rendering Mode and Disable Vertex Cache in its settings.

As for the content itself, anyone else thought Chiru episodes were a bit iffy? There's several good moments, but since the game gradually switches away from Battler's PoV, the last two episodes in particular end up losing all the steam and good banter of previous episodes. In my opinion Battler-Beatrice interactions were the most worthwhile thing, especially since Beatrice's VA's delivery is fantastic, so it's sad that all of that got mostly phased out by the end. Ange in general isn't really that likable and dedicating the entirety of EP8 to her finally moving on felt like a lukewarm finale, delivered almost solely by melodramatic chuuni battles and boring drama, without any of the accompanying logic battles or even previous episode's long-winded backstory dumps. Willard and Lion were even worse characters, and didn't get to shine properly despite the very end of EP7 seemingly setting up a scenario where they would actually do something worthwhile in the last episode. In fact they got completely dropped in favor of Ange's boohoo story. In general, it feels the entire experience often gets dragged down by some of the long-winded stuff and easily overstays its welcome. The writer could definitely use an editor, since the ending of EP6 could have easily served as a conclusion as well if it had a bit more of the later revelations, which ended up getting stretched into two whole drama-filled episodes.

I considered the series' own general, but apparently it's a dedicated shitposting thread. The mega link in the OP however does have the PS3 versions (and pretty much everything 07th Expansion related, including untranslated stuff) which I didn't manage to find anywhere else, so huge props to whoever managed to gather all of that at least.

The issue is not that no one cared about purity back then and everyone cares about it today. People back then and now are exactly the same. The issue was, and is, and has always been, characters who are expected to be pure or promoted as such, but turn out not to be.

I finally finished alternative. Overall pretty nice game. My only real complaint is that chapter 10 feels strangely rushed compared to the rest of the game which has incredibly slow, molasses pacing (that's a good thing). I wish it was as long and detailed as the Sadogashima part. Also everyone dying was cliche as fuck but the entire game played death flags 100% straight so whatever. Meiya's death was pretty sad though. I should probably take a break from Age for a while now.
