Actually, I was thinking more of a seaside setting to be near, but a river is fine too, I could use my current car to get back and forth to work.

Haha, I like some of these. I wanted to add more, like this, to my own, but I reached the field limit. Why only 1980 onward? There are some really nice pre-80s movies. I'd go more victorian/gothic mix, with some old the old historical New Orleans styles with the graceful verandas and elegant parlors, all that stuff.

I choose to live in a mansion on the bottom of the ocean. Its existence, as well as mine, is known to nobody. The only other non-inanimate thing there is a robot maid, who never speaks or looks at me unless I speak to her first. It is always completely silent, except for the white noise of the machinery that makes underwater living possible. There are many long corridors with windows offering a wide view of the surrounding seafloor. The whole place is always just a tad chilly, and everything is cold aqua and blue like the ocean outside.
