What the fuck is this shit honestly. It's a visual novel, and not even the longest one Nasu wrote. How hard is it to make 5 routes (I really doubt there's gonna be a Satsuki route, they would've included it into Near Moon if it was happening)? It's not fucking Star Citizen, it's just a visual novel, why after all these years are you realizing it piecemeal? Did Nasu get writer's block or something? Fuck this. Unless part one is somehow as long as all of FSN I fail to see any legitimate reason to do it like this. Or maybe I'm overthinking it and they just want to sell it twice (or thrice, with some sort of "complete" edition coming out eventually).

I'm not really artistically minded, so I'm probably not the best at deciding that. I liked her older style of clothing that was a little baggier and more huggable
It's obvious that they want her to look younger but I feel like that's sort of the problem since her face is now the same face as every other character, so maybe a more distinctive nose would help. He must’ve started working on Tsukihime after Mahoyo. At that time FGO was starting so he was busy with that and directing all of FGO. I believe that COVID helped make Tsukihime a reality since he was locked inside and had to finish Tsukihime at this point. I just don't get why Takeuchi decided to change her so completely. Even nu-Arc is somewhat recognizable, but Ciel is just a completely different character, there's not a bit of her left. And it's a damn shame because she had the best spritework in the original novel.

What?
I am not exactly fond of the remake designs either, but outside of maybe like, the maids. Ciel's redesign is the one that changed the least.
What's this about Ciel looking entirely different or Ciel not even looking like Ciel?

I get you don't like the change and you've got my sympathy for that. But it really does look like Ciel got one of the most faithful redesigns.

The length of the hair on the sides.
The length of her hair in the back.
Like everything about her hair aside from her bangs not being parted.
The skirt of the school uniform is different, but aside from that and the ribbon it's the same.
Finally the new Melty Blood promo stuff does reveal that she has got some new collar thing going on for her church clothes, but you can't even tell from the back so it doesn't even show in the animated video by Ufotable because she looks the same as ever from the back. She has a new cross around her necklace too though.

You don't need to use the flowchart on your first playthrough. It'll come in handy when you will plan other routes since getting to some of them (Ciel's route in particular) can be pretty damn obtuse. It's different from FSN, where each route was a completely different entity.
Although Tsukihime is by no means a difficult game. Just don't be an ass to the girl you like and you'll get there eventually, maybe stumbling a few times along the way. By the way, Akiha and Hisui/Kohaku routes are locked at first, you need to clear the game once to unlock the choices that lead you to them.

Eh, it's in the margin of error most of the time, especially for a VN artist. I've seen some truly fucked shit in this genre, thanks to how much of it is done by amateurs on a tight schedule.
Takeuchi is not a bad artist. Far from it, he can draw some truly cool character art, he's definitely one of the greats in the industry. His issues stem from his desire to always draw appealing things. He thinks that Arc's granny skirt was unappealing, so that had to go. He thought that Ciel's "I'm my own barber" haircut was unappealing, so that had to go. On one hand, this is a good mindset - beauty comes first when it comes to art, and when you think otherwise, your laziness will always end up taking over. If your art requires no skill, then anyone can replicate it, and if anyone can do that, then what's the point of it? >If art is not beautiful, it's meaningless
And who is going to decide if it is beautiful or not? you?

Are you going to determine beauty by consensus? maybe a democratic vote on what is beauty is what you want?

So i guess that if the majority of normalfags on this planet thinks that if VNs are not beautiful they are meaningless

What about music? because i personally do not find it beautiful does it mean it's not art? that it doesn't have anything to say?

The idea that art has to be beautiful to have meaning is honestly childish, beyond the question of how you are going to measure it as objectively beautiful when you are a flawed man, you would also need to figure out how to make everyone else agree with whatever metric you come up with, which is basically impossible

>If your art requires no skill, then anyone can replicate it, and if anyone can do that, then what's the point of it?
Yes, anyone can replicate art, artists are not special snowflakes, that's why there are fakes and replicas of almost anything you can think of, sometimes even of superior quality to the original.

>And who is going to decide if it is beautiful or not? you?
Society decides. For example, society doesn't really like modern art - the only people interested in it are high-brow intellectuals who might or might not be laundering money through banana exhibits. I believe that people have ideas about beauty on a subconscious level. Healthy people are beautiful, nature is beautiful, clear sky is beautiful. Our ideas about beauty might evolve slightly over time, but they always reflect the same general concepts. Naturally, beauty is not objective. But most of us have a pretty good idea of what it looks like.
>What about music? because i personally do not find it beautiful does it mean it's not art? that it doesn't have anything to say?

Art is both part objective and part subjective. The objective part of art mostly has to do with the technical side of this. Was this drawn well? Is the coloring done correctly? etc. That's why garbage like shit in a can isn't art but just pseudo-intellectuals wanking off to each other. If you can't get the technical basics down, you will never be a good artist. The more subjective side has to do with the emotion it invokes in the observer. Does the art achieve the desired purpose? Do people obtain the correct message from it? That thing is harder to judge since it varies person to person but we're all human so there's certain rules we are pretty much hardwired to obey (e.g. warm/bright colors = happy; dark colors = sad).

>Society decides
Who is society?
Is it the wealthy?
Is it the Elites?
Is it the leaders?
Is it the party?
Is it the people?
Is it all of them?

And if you determine that it is everyone that participates in the "group" we call society and their opinion are all equally valuable do you think niche arts such as visual novels would still exist? There is a reason why VNs as a medium has remained a niche

Think about pic related, is it beautiful? I think it is beautiful, but what if we showed this image to a normalfag, what would they say? Probably it isn't
But what if instead of pic related i posted an image of a half naked, sexually attractive and reproductive aged 3D female?
The average normalfag will probably say it's beautiful.

>I believe that people have ideas about beauty on a subconscious level. Healthy people are beautiful, nature is beautiful, clear sky is beautiful.
I agree, but there is also something more that can be said, of all the examples you provided all of them come from nature, the sky, the human body, nature itself. Human art does not come from nature, it may seek to imitate nature, but it comes from humanity and therefore, it comes from outside of nature. (unless you determine that humanity is a part of nature and therefore it too can be considered to be nothing but a natural process taking place with a begging and an end, and therefore not outside of nature, but rather another element to it)

What we "naturally" find beautiful is yet another medium by which the unconscious manipulates us into obeying it's will and primary directive of evolutionary survival, perhaps this is the reason why beauty is not objective, precisely because it is not rational, and instead of emerging from universally definable and agreeable characteristics, it emerges from the pit of the unconscious, which has it's own goals to achieve, and has learnt to prioritize certain elements over others

If we go by the metric of what society finds beautiful then we would conclude that Harry Potter is a beautiful work of art, or that the latest nigger music is a beautiful work of art. Society doesn't know shit, which is why we should keep beauty as a subjective term always, otherwise the normies might start getting uppity and decide to censor what we find beautiful.

>There is a reason why VNs as a medium has remained a niche
The reason why VNs are niche is not artstyle, it's their own past. The West never had the same VN boom of the early 90s that Japan did, our industry was always too preoccupied with action games to see potential in point-and-click adventures that VNs evolved from. It's also the reason why Japan doesn't play FPS games.
>Think about pic related, is it beautiful? I think it is beautiful, but what if we showed this image to a normalfag, what would they say? Probably it isn't
This is the style that was first pioneered by Walt Disney. I'm sure you know this story. So even normies enjoy it, just look at how popular Disney princesses still are.
You're arguing for gatekeeping, with which I agree. Still, I like demanding beauty from artists for one main reason - I know what happens when someone decides that they're too good for conventions and develops a """"style"""" that looks ugly and lazy 99% of the time. I guess we don't need to define beauty as something objective that would make everyone happy (because no one would be happy), but I would still say that art should be made with as much effort as one can muster. I hate when people cover their laziness with their vague ideas about art.

Dunno about Europe, but Americans, as a whole, unironically don't have the attention span for VNs. Hence why other styles of games became popular here.

Let's have a little history lesson because I have nothing better to do.
We all started on the same page. Of course computer gaming was more popular in Europe, but everyone was playing games like The Secret of Monkey Island, Leisure Suit Larry, and Sierra's Quest series. Those kinds of games were perfect for slower PCs of the time. In Japan, they had a similar surge, with tons and tons of detective adventure games, a trend that was started by Yuji Horii's Portopia Serial Murder Case.
The split happened in the 90s. In the West, people like John Carmack, thanks to hardware finally being completely unified under the IBM banner, took PC gaming in the direction of cutting-edge action games with titles like Wing Commander and DOOM.
In Japan, however, things were different. They had a gigantic explosion of adult adventure games in the 80s (practically everyone was making them by the dozen) because the censorship didn't catch up yet. Those played exactly like any adventure game of the time would, but instead of corpses, you get tits (and sometimes also corpses). These games became more and more shameless and perverted, until one day, censorship did finally catch up. In 1991, Japan had its own Mortal Kombat incident - the government took notice of FairyTale's "Saori: the House of Beautiful Girls" after some high schooler stole it from some store. The game was a glorified picture set with nothing but uncensored rape and incest (real incest, not the modern "we're not actually blood relatives" incest). It was a huge mess, the president of FairyTale was arrested for possession and resale of obscene materials, and the whole thing was dubbed the "Saori incident".
So the predecessor to CERO was created, and all of these companies had to get creative and hide the porn behind something, with story being the most obvious choice. That's how Elf's Doukyuusei happened, which can be called the first modern date sim. In the same year, Chunsoft created Otogirisou, which they dubbed the "sound novel" (this was later trademarked by Chunsoft). The idea was simple - unlike adventure games, sound novels would put all emphasis on the story, sound, and visuals, with no gameplay other than clicking through text, for full immersion. One particular feature of those games was text being all over the screen, and not just in a small textbox. This was a very successful idea. But "sound novel" was trademarked, so some other term had to be invented, and that's when Leaf stepped in, with their "Leaf Visual Novel Series", which became a smashing success (To Heart was one of the games in this series). That's how this genre was created. And to this day, some Japanese players distinguish between sound novels (games like Tsukihime, FSN, Mahoyo, Higurashi, etc.) and visual novels.
So I don't think we were too stupid for visual novels. We were just obsessed with guns, while the Japanese were obsessed with tits.

As for your question, I think it's something like when she was killed for the first time and Roa left her, by some random error, the world continued to recognise her as 'Roa' and not Ciel. Because the dead apostle Roa was still 'alive', the world refused to let Ciel die, who it still saw as Roa. After Roa's killed for good, Ciel loses her immortality.

People here just understimates the sheer work high definition 2D needs. It's more difficult than making a 3D game that can counts on more and better tools & middlewares. An example for another genre is Cuphead that took forever to release and so its expansion. Or they could have taken the Ryukishi pill, stay with the same shit art with at least one decent colourist with photoshopped backgrounds and zero directing but I prefer this way.
Also since 2008 Mahoyo happened, the time it took to release was unexpected since it originally was a low budget project.
Of course they're partly at fault becuase Nasu admitted the project was once stopped but this things could happen with a small team and at least we will have a better resolution compared to Mahoyo's 576p.

Nope. All (and I mean all) professional artists nowadays work in resolutions that excel 4K, because it's easier to draw without thinking about pixels and shit. Then they downscale the end results to whatever's necessary. To give you an idea - here an image from Fate/Extella's press kit, Liz's full body sprite in full resolution. This kind of stuff rarely gets to normal users, but as you can see, if Marvelous wanted to make a proper 4K version of Extella - they absolutely could.
So Takeuchi could easily make a 4K game, but he won't because Japanese developers like Type-Moon are still stuck in 2010 for some reason.

But Tsukihime and FSN are literally called ビジュアルノベル.

>> No.33982359

>>33982161
Well I'm not sure about FSN, but I'm fairly certain Tsukihime used the term サウンドノベル upon its release. It's kind of an old term though. Not sure when it went out of style exactly. Hell alot of this shit is just called "adventure games".

Yeah, it seems pretty vague. Nasu calls Tsukihime a sound novel in this interview.
>元々、伝奇モノは色気のある長文を見せたいという気持ちが強かったので、やるならサウンドノベルがいいと決めていました。その『月姫』が多くの人に受け入れられたので、このままゲームライティングを続けるか、それとも夢だった小説家を目指すか考えたんです。
https://www.famitsu.com/news/201910/05182695.html

I vaguely remember seeing an old advertisement for Tsukihime that also called it a sound novel although I can't find it right now. The reality is probably just that there isn't actually any difference and sound novel is just sometimes used to refer to really old/early games in this genre.

The phrase kind of lost its meaning now, yes. Especially because, as I said, Chunsoft owns it, so people avoid using it for their projects. But Nasu's works are certainly sound novels, and the same applies to Ryukishi07, who was always saying that Higurashi is a sound novel.
Nowadays, it's just something Japanese oldfags use to feel fancy.

I wonder exactly how much backlash they would get if Sacchin route cancellation is confirmed, because based on the information we got so far, it seems highly likely and I don't see how Type Moon will be able to not address this before release in any shape or form. Backlash could be worst if they keep silent and the fans try everything to trigger it to no avail. But it wouldn't be surprising given how many old fans have left the Type Moon fandom over the years and the fact that Nasu doesn't have to appeal to those people anymore.
