For some reason, I feel that Bern and Lambda are the only two genuine witches. They have some backstory in another world, and generally give off the feeling that they know other people in that world. Beatrice and the other witches and stakes feel either made up in the Meta-world or they have only existed as humans on the island.

Trollkastel = God
Beato = Faith
Erika = Cold reason

The twist is that Satan and God, despite opposing one another, are actually friends who are just trolling mortals a la Job. Superpaper is the outwardly malevolent force, while Trollkastel is the seemingly benevolent deity who, in truth, uses mortals for her own amusement. Beatrice represents faith not in the divine, but in the power of the human heart as a force to overcome reason, as well as divine "good" and "evil."
