It's probably the most barebones RPG series ever made. Pokeymon barely has a plot, the characters don't get any development, and the battle system is this simple rock-paper-scissors thing.

There is no reason to like it besides for nostalgia reasons.

Nintendo is actually starting to work on that. There's quite a bit of story in HG/SS.

Its not a novel but its there. One step at a time.
